DC-CAP’s Alpha Leadership Project (ALP) was launched in 2007 for young men of color in the DC public and public charter high schools. One of the goals of ALP was to increase the number of college enrollees amongst this student population by providing counseling, scholarships, and mentoring services. Since its inception, ALP has served 1,150 participants and awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships. The program receives tremendous support from its mentors who work directly with the students to help them succeed in their educational process. DC-CAP is appreciative of The Boeing Company's continued support of our STEM Incentive and Scholarship Program. Because of our partnership, we are creating a pipeline of the next generation of STEM professionals.

We stand with all those who are working to create a more inclusive, more equitable world. 57 years ago today was the historic March on Washington to fight for civil rights.

Today, we honor that event by awarding more than $10 million in charitable grants to 20 nonprofits advancing racial equity and social justice reforms in the United States.

DCPS has released the academic calendar for School Year 2020-2021. We will add five instructional days for students by reducing three professional development days for staff to accommodate as much in-person instruction as health conditions allow.

To help students transition into SY20-21, we will hold a Summer Bridge program for students entering grades 3, 6, and 9. If health conditions allow, Summer Bridge will take place in-person Monday through Thursday from August 10-13 and 17-20. Advance registration will be required.

The first day of school for students is Monday, August 31, 2020, and the last day of school for students is Thursday, June 24, 2021. Explore the full SY20-21 calendar online at dcps.dc.gov/page/dcps-calendars.
