Today, DREF commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas (1954)👨🏾‍⚖️

On May 17, 1954, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren delivered the unanimous ruling in this landmark civil rights case, determining that state-sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th Amendment and was therefore unconstitutional. This historic decision marked the end of the "separate but equal" practices in public education.

We are grateful for the tenacity and resolve of the dynamic Howard University-educated legal team—led by Charles Hamilton Houston, Thurgood Marshall, and others—that argued the case. Their work made it possible for us to have social and educational freedoms, and for DREF to and !

If you still need a unique and meaningful Mother's Day gift, look no further! In recognition of the 70th Anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka Supreme Court decision, DREF commissioned Dr. Kathi Earles Ross to create a commemorative print entitled Possibilities.

The mixed media piece takes its name from the DREF tagline, " , ." It depicts the legacy of Brown v. Board of Education, utilizing historical imagery and a variety of materials to capture the struggle and hope for a more equitable future. The vintage classroom is displayed with a patchwork of newspaper clippings, photographs and legal documents—a monochromatic backdrop contrasted with an array of colors and materials used to depict the presence of hope seen through the new students’ eyes.

For your tax-deductible donation, you will receive a signed 12x18 or 24x36 print of this beautiful artwork. Shipments of the work will be sent beginning June 1. Click the link to donate now! 👩🏾‍🎨 https://ow.ly/e71m50RCjEi
