The QEM Network was established in July 1990, as a non-profit organization in Washington, DC, dedicated to improving education for minorities.
The Quality Education for Minorities (QEM) Network is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC, Dedicated to improving the education of African Americans, Alaska Natives, American Indians, Mexican Americans, and Puerto Ricans.
Operating as usual
Last week, QEM and NSF celebrated another successful summer with our Talent Development and Innovation in Sciences (TDIS) Internship Program! This year we welcomed students from North Carolina A&T State University, the University of Delaware, Virginia Tech, the University of Florida, The University of New Mexico, the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of the District of Columbia, the University of Georgia, and Alabama A&M University. Thank you to all the NSF mentors and Fellows who helped to make this year's cohort of students a success.
We would also like to thank the campus mentors who will continue to work with the students as they continue their journey to success. Good Luck to the TDIS class of 2024 Interns.

This is an alert regarding an upcoming QEM NSF BIO 2-day grantsmanship development workshop, specifically designed for Biology faculty at Minority-serving institution (MSI), community college (CC), and underrepresented minority (URM) faculty outside of R1 institutions. This workshop is a unique opportunity to enhance your proposal writing skills, gain insights into the NSF funding process, and connect with peers and mentors in the field. This proposal development workshop will cultivate a competitive broader assembly of proposals to the following programs within the Directorate for Biological Sciences (BIO): RUI, BIO-BRC, CAREER, HBCU-EIR, Mid-career and training programs, REU, RaMP, and RET. We believe your participation will greatly benefit your research endeavors.

POSITION TITLE: Research Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY
QEM is seeking a Research Coordinator to provide support for the Lumina Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant-funded projects. The Research Coordinator will manage the daily operation of the research projects by performing tasks including but not limited to, developing and responding to communications, organizing data collection calendars, and conducting research.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Planning and Organizing
• Coordinate with the project leadership team on study timelines to ensure activities are conducted within the proposed timeframe
Conducting Research
• Review and provide feedback on study protocols
• Collect data using electronic tools
• Assist in conducting interviews with research subjects
• Check the validity and accuracy of collected data
• Compare reports to raw data to reduce errors and ensure that information is current and complete
• Follow up with research subjects or other researchers to verify information
• Use qualitative or quantitative methods to analyze data
• Use statistical evaluation tools/methodologies to present operational data
• Use advanced data modeling technologies to derive insights from the information gathered
• Analyze information to determine whether working hypotheses are correct
Preparing reports
• Synthesize information collected from interviews
• Prepare reports related to project activities and findings
• Work collaboratively with grant personnel to write research reports for professional presentation and publication
Additional tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Professional Experience
• Required Skills:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical skills
• Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong ability to complete tasks independently
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail• Preferred Skills:
• Knowledge of statistical methods
• Research methods knowledge
• Project management abilities
• Experience working with the indigenous community
• Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s degree in social science/STEM-related field
• Previous experience in an office setting
• Previous experience in a team-based environment
• Experience with meeting rigid deadlines
• Experience with research/evaluative techniques
WAGE/SALARY: $70,000 per year
