Academy for Ideal Education

In an Ideal Education, learning is fun. There is joy in the learning process. Students learn to love - and love to learn.

Ideal Education, the educational philosophy and guiding principles that birthed three schools: Ideal School of Washington and the Academy for Ideal Education (1991-2018) and the Ideal Academy Public Charter School (1999-2020). This love of learning is like a pervasive aroma infusing the atmosphere with an intoxicating desire to achieve the highest.

There is a special group of individuals, a special category of people, a few chosen heroes who have answered the call to teach in our schools. They teach when teaching conditions have never been worse. They teach when threats of violence loom overhead. They teach when pay remains the lowest of all professions. They teach when students are hostile and administrators are indifferent. They teach when you and I would have walked out of the classroom many times. They are truly America’s heroes.

WE DEDICATE THE “CREED OF IDEAL TEACHERS” TO YOU.

GoGo YOGA, the full spectrum. Dawn Valentine guided us in yoga to the conscious rap such as, "The revolution shall not be televised." African dance with Nana Malaya. The weather was perfect and it was a beautiful activity and we yogis all departed. Later that evening after another event, when I got home I received this news:

"Hi people please read this. https://twitter.com/phil_lewis_/status/1538699228108709888?s=21&t=9HiSiMB6OHoB4qFnxl60tQ Very unfortunate."

And it doesn't end there.

We meditated through the sirens, cars, traffic, and people; we dove into the silence through the outer, ordinary noise of a busy intersection at 14th and U.

10 powerful times enslaved Africans rebelled to show that slavery was not a choice - Page 10 of 11 - Face2Face Africa 05/07/2018

EXCERPT: Slavery was not a choice and the many acts of resistance throughout America’s 400-year slave history prove so! Historians count 313 slave revolts – defined as “an action involving 10 or more slaves, with freedom as the apparent aim [and] contemporary references labeling the event as an uprising, plot, insurrection, or the equivalent of these” – throughout the United States.

A glimpse at revolts by enslaved Africans around the world proves that there were hundreds of thousands of slave rebellions during America’s 400-year slave history. Many revolts against slavery in America, the Caribbean, and Africa fed into each other, were all successful, directly and indirectly, and gave birth to our society and world as we know it today.
