Announcing a new lesson format! Did you want to learn how to play an instrument as a child and never had the opportunity? Learn an instrument side-by-side with your keiki. This lesson format sets you, the parent, up to assist in learning between lessons. These lessons allow you to build a stronger relationship with your child through music.
Foodland's Give Aloha continues through September 30th! Your donation can count toward our $30,000 matching grant, as well!
Classes are cancelled for today. I have some kind of upper respiratory infection. All of my COVID tests have been negative though.
Bibingka is still trying to figure out what role she plays in the studio. She tried her hand at being our librarian but I think that may have been a little too challenging. I'm sure she'll figure it out.
They’re back!

Method books are an essential tool to learning any instrument. They contain exercises that are scaffolded to build essential techniques in the most efficient way and break down every motion required to be successful. These are just some of the books that I use with my students. I think it's important to match the book with the student; some of these books are very dry and straight forward while others include diagrams, pictures, practice techniques, and games.

Even more from the Florestan Quartet today!
Major news coming out soon about the future of pernambuco. The prized wood we use in bow making has been severely over harvested and the wood is nearing extinction. This could mean that the entire industry has to shift to alternative materials.
The Strad - The frightening future of pernambuco: what could it mean for violin and bow makers? Ahead of a November meeting to discuss the future of the international pernambuco trade, Lynn Hannings, vice president of the International Alliance of Violin and Bow Makers for Endangered Species, explains how the organisation is acting in support of musicians
Please excuse my sniffling, this is the first time I've heard a student string ensemble perform in nearly 5 years and it was a bit more moving than I anticipated. This was literally just the soundcheck.
Working for the post office left a massive empty void inside of me. Having to turn off my creative brain for years was a very hard thing for me to do. I am so happy to be back working with children and music and I can't wait to see what the future holds for me on Maui.

I had a wonderful time working with the 5th graders at Pomaikai today. We learned 2 new chords on our ukuleles and played Best Day of My Life and Pearly Shells. If you're interested in private lessons for your keiki, I'm now accepting students as young as 5 years old! 🎵🎶🎻🎸
Happy Birthday, Itzhak!

Exciting news! I can’t wait to be back on stage at Castle Theater.
When your office is in your car you can have some pretty amazing views.
🤣
Today I got to work with the 3rd graders at Pomaikai Elementary.
The power went out for about 25 minutes today and I almost had to cancel my lessons. Glad I didn't. Babingka has some new fans that definitely gave her some much needed exercise. 😍
If you are a current client of mine you know that I've been on the struggle bus with bows right now. Training via email and pictures has been a challenge since the Oberlin class was canceled. But I finally have this 3/4 S Eastman bow ready to go, it received a minor tip repair, new faux whalebone wrapping, and a new goat skin leather grip. Now to get it out of my studio and keep working on this backlog of bows.
