Happy Anniversary to Ms. Shroug! As of yesterday, Ms. Shroug has been working with us for 3 years. Her cheerful and kind personality makes her a joy to work with and we have loved having her as part of our family for the past 3 years. Here’s to many more! ❤️

We had so much fun at Potomac Overlook Regional Park yesterday! We saw an awesome community garden 🫛🌶️🥒, learned about local wildlife 🪱🐸 and even got to see some rescued birds of prey! 🦉🦅 we can’t wait for our next field trip!

We had an amazing time hanging out with the animals at NOVA Wild last week! We got to go on a wagon ride and feed lots of goats! We almost didn’t even notice the heat.☀️

Happy birthday yesterday to Ms. Shole! Ms. Shole is one of our caterpillars teachers and it is obvious to anyone who sees her with the babies that she adores them! Ms. Shole’s kindness and dedication to the care of the sweet babies in her classroom have made a huge impact on our school and we can’t imagine life without her. Happy Birthday, Ms. Shole! We hope it was wonderful 😊
Children experience all the same emotions as adults, but they aren’t yet equipped with the tools to handle those feelings. The first step toward understanding their big feelings is helping them learn how to recognize and name their emotions. At The Goddard School - Tysons we like asking open-ended questions like “What is something that makes you happy or sad?” or “Can you show me what face you make when you are happy, sad or angry?” This gives children the opportunity to share their emotions and show what they know about them. This exercise had Goddard students using emojis to identify each emotion in honor of World Emoji Day. 😊😕😆😥😴 Give it a try with your little one!

Happy Birthday to Ms. Claudia A. yesterday! Ms. Claudia is so kind and diligent. She mostly helps us with snack preparation and distributing lunches, but can often be found in any classroom assisting the teachers as needed. We are so grateful to have her as part of our family here at Goddard!

June is National Immigrant Month! Here are some great children's books about immigrants and immigration that we love!
📖 What is a Refugee? by Elise Gravel provides a simple introduction for children ages 3-7 about why refugees have to leave home and how we can help them to feel more welcome in our communities.
📖 Coqui in the City by Nomar Perez is a sweet tale for children of any age about a young boy who moves to the United States from Puerto Rico and realizes that there are many similarities in his new home and his old.
📖 A shelter in our Car by Monica Gunning is a story about meeting challenges for children ages 5-7. It tells of a young girl who moves to the United States with her mother and how love, courage, and determination helps them to make a new life together.
📖 Carmella Full of Wishes by Matt de la Pena is a story for ages 4-8 about a girl who finds a dandelion and must decide what to wish for to help her family settle in to their new home in the United States.
📖 Danbi Leads the School Parade tells the heartwarming story of Danbi learning how to fit in to a new country with a new language and culture. It is a great story for children ages 3 and older.
📖 Dreamers by Yuyi Morales is a memoir written for children ages 4-8 about Yuyi's experience immigrating to the United States and learning how to keep her history and culture in her heart as she build a new life.

The Goddard School of Alexandria (Old Town), VA, is now open! Congratulations to owners Akhil and Madhu Govil. This is the fourth location for the co-owners, who also own The Goddard School of Ashburn, The Goddard School of Ashburn Leesburg, and The Goddard School of Waldorf.
As owners & grandparents, their goal is to continue to provide a foundation of learning to all the young children in Alexandria who are the beacon of the great future. They are excited for the opportunity and look forward to serving the Old Town Alexandria community.
