We have done this for years. "Grow your own dirt", as someone we know has often said. Happy Earth Day!

Do you compost?

A good reminder on this day of crime and chaos.

Sadly, the salary discrepancy for men vs. women, here is the County of Ventura, is dramatic. Sorry, we are not buying the story that women choose to take lesser paying jobs. Our own founder was hired in the 1990's at the same time as a man, in the same job title with the same job description and responsibilities. She had a college degree and the man did not. She was paid $10k/year less than the man. The reason given by her employer, the NJ Department of Labor (DOL - the same agency charged with protecting people from discriminatory practices in the workplace), was that he had a wife and children at home to support. With every COLA increase, his salary was increased at a greater amount than hers. A few years later, when our founder had a husband at home to support, she was not paid anything more.

At this same job, men throughout the DOL posted page 6 of the Trentonian (pictures of sc****ly clad swimsuit models) throughout the office. The federal DOL also distributed poster throughout the nation sending the message that, if women would just keep their legs crossed, the AIDS epidemic would be resolved. Our founder called the USDOL and informed them that the posters were offensive to women. The posters were immediately taken down.

Our founder's phone call to the USDOL may have been the reason why, shortly thereafter, our founder was s*xually harassed, day in, day out for months on end. She was ordered to report to a closed file room (rather than her own office) and work with two men who constantly spoke of their own ge****ls and their wives breasts throughout the day. When she brought the matter to her boss, he just smiled knowingly. She eventually had to go to the Governor's office and threaten to go to the press with the matter, if they did not reassign her. She was eventually reassigned to another Department, and she had to learn all new job responsibilities. The men were not affected in the least.

If our country's leaders would just pass the Equal Rights Amendment, perhaps these issues would no longer exist.

BTW, the Equal Rights Amendment is quite simple. It states:

"Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of s*x.

Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification."

Perhaps they know something they are not telling the general public... Something to think about...

Man buys toy poodles, discovers they’re actually ferrets on steroids 04/08/2013

Has anyone ever given thought to the idea that perhaps we, as humans, should stop turning Nature into science experiments known as pets? We understand that they are cute, and they provide entertainment, companionship to their owners, and profits to those who run shelters for them as well as those who sell them, their food, their toys, and such. Still, maybe we, as humans, should learn to provide better companionship to one another. Though it may be unpopular, we believe Nature should be left alone to live as Nature intended. Just a thought we've come to embrace in recent years...

Man buys toy poodles, discovers they’re actually ferrets on steroids An Argentinian man who thought he bought a pair of poodles at an outdoor market in Buenos Aires brought them home to the vet only to be told they were actually ferrets on steroids, reports the Daily Mail. The man, a retiree from Catamarca, purchased the animals at La Salada, Argentina's largest baza...

Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013)

Politics aside, we recognize Margaret Thatcher today for her accomplishments as the longest serving Prime Minister of the UK in the 20th century (1979-1990) and the only Woman to have ever held the post.

She was a trailblazing fearless leader, and a strong role model for Women everywhere. Rest in Peace Iron Lady/Baroness Thatcher.
