Final Rule 2023R-08F clarifies that a rifle is a firearm with a barrel measuring 16 inches or more that is designed to be fired from the shoulder — that includes any accessory, component, or rearward attachment that “provides surface area that allows the weapon to be fired from the shoulder, provided other factors, as listed in the definition, indicate the weapon is designed and intended to be fired from the shoulder.” Soooo, if the rifle’s barrel is under 16 inches and it wears a brace, it’s an SBR under the new guidelines

AR15 Gas System Length
Are you building your first AR15 and wondering which length of gas system will be right for you? Not to worry! Here is some quick information that will help you along.
Your average AR15 is a Gas Impingement System. That means when fired, it bleeds off some of the combustion gases, redirects those rearward through the Gas Tube and that gas or gas pressure is what unlocks and opens the Bolt.
The bleed-off gas goes through the Gas Port on the Barrel, into the Gas Block and then into the Gas Tube. The Gas Block is pinned or secured to the Barrel, on the Gas Block Journal, which is just the portion of the barrel that has the Gas Port in it.
The Gas System length is simply the length from the rear of the Barrel to the Gas Black Journal.

Pistol Length 4"
Carbine Length 7"
Mid Length 9"
Rifle Length 12"

Total Barrel lengths can be in the following typical ranges:
Pistol Length 7.5"; 8.5"; 10.5"
Carbine Length: 10.5"; 14.5"; 16"
Mid Length: 14.5"; 16"; 18"
Rifle Length: 16"; 18"; 20"; 22"; 24"

The length of your Barrel has a lot to do with which Gas System Length you'll want. Keep in mind, to avoid violating Federal Laws, an AR15 Pistol cannot have a Stock but an Arm Brace is OK as long as you don't shoulder it like a Stock!

And any rifle with a Barrel less that 16" is a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) and requires the appropriate Federal forms. Yes, you can have a 14.5" Barrel with a 1.5" Muzzle Device either welded on or pinned on, thus making the barrel an overall length of 16" and thereby not need any forms or tax stamp.

So most will opt for 16" or longer. That choice involves accuracy, maneuverability and room to mount accessories on the Handguard. Originally Colt's AR15 (Semi-Auto Only) and M16 (Military Select Fire) were produced in 20" versions and that is what the military 5.56mm and the civilian .223 caliber ammunition were designed to shoot from.

Through the years the military wanted shorter rifles that were easier to maneuver in an urban environment. The current version is the M16/M4A1 Carbine or simply M4 and has a 16" barrel.

Now accuracy has a lot to do with Barrel Length, Muzzle Velocity, Bullet Weight and internal rifling Twist! More on that later!

We finally got our hands on the newest Vortex Range Finder! It is the Crossfire HD 1400 Laser Rangefinder. This is a great unit at an awesome price point. While its not our first range finder, we can tell it will quickly become a favorite! The 5X magnification is great for hunting and long range shooting.
The case has a soft, quiet opening. No snaps or velcro to startle your game. It comes with a bungee to secure it to the case; a carrying strap long enough to go around your neck; lens cloth; manual and a piece of velco roll which we haven't yet figured out what that's for.
We got out to the long range tables and it did not disappoint. It was very accurate on verified targets out to 800 yards (+/- 2-3 yards) with less that a yard at 400 yds or less. At 1,034 yards, (a verified distance), the Crossfire ranged at 1031. Those ranges are completely within manufacturers stated performance.
Its super lightweight, 4.8 oz I believe and the 21mm objective lens keeps the field of view bright. I love the choice of modes, Normal, First, Last & LOS/HCD.
The controls are intuitively placed and easy to find.
Of course Votex's AWESOME warranty is always a bonus not found on other brands.

Everyone has different body sizes and just like you chose your car to fit your needs, you can choose what goes into your AR15 instead of buying one out of the box.
Now don't get me wrong, there are many fine AR's straight out of the box, but I really like one that fits me and does what I want it to. So I built my own, and you can do the same.
You'll have control over what's important or more importantly, what your precious treasure goes into and where its not so important.
You first want to start with a good quality receiver set. How long of a barrel do you want? Are your arms short or long? Mine are long so I don't prefer a shorter barrel. I also like a free floating handguard that extends out to almost the end of the barrel. I don't like the feel of a "quad" handguard, e.g. 4 Picatinny rails. Besides, I will mount any accessories directly to the handguard with M-Lok slots and thereby saving width.
Hopefully just these ideas will start you down that path that leads to the best AR for you and your budget.
You also get to decide what type of AR you want. An AR Pistol or a Short Barreled Rifle (SBR)? The latter means $200 tax stamp and filing out federal forms. Looking for something similar to the military's M4 or would you prefer a RECCE (Recon) type rifle that has a bit more range. If range is what you want, think about a 24" barrel with a mounted bi-pod, an adjustable stock and a quality scope. Have you lost enough hearing that you want to protect it with a suppressor? No, it's not a silencer. Forget what you saw in the movies, no gun makes just a PFFFT sound! ;-)

Oh, by the way, AR15 stands for Armalite Rifle, the 15th version, NOT automatic rifle shooting 15 rounds a second! The AR15, a semi-automatic, came before the M16, which could fire in semi-auto or automatic.

Her comment was about how kids these days aren’t being taught how to write in cursive and certainly not how to read cursive!

I remember growing up, it wasn’t that hard or didn’t take that long to learn how to read and write in cursive.

So why do away with cursive writing? What government document is written in cursive that they don’t want read?

It’s about time! Make no mistake, many establishments will still require you to wear a mask. However, if you have an exemption, which they are not allowed to ask you what your exemption is, you’re clear anyway.

Think for yourself people. UNMASK! It’s not like the silly paper masks were ever going to protect anybody. How many people actually changed their mask, or threw away their old one, after having worn it for 15 minutes. if you could still smell somebody’s perfume or cologne through your mask, a biological agent is coming through as well!

This bill is in the house right now. If it passes, several things will happen.
1. All gun owners required to obtain this license. $800 per license. Then you must register ALL your guns.
2. The license requires:
A. Criminal background check
B. Psychological check
C. 24 hours of gun safety training
D. And insurance policy for your guns
3. Military style weapons require a license (SEPARATE). Military style weapons defined as pretty much anything that the military is ever used. Any gun that looks like, copies or is a simulation of.
Requirements for a military license:
A. you must first get the regular license above.
B. Addition to your 24 hours of gun safety training you would also be required to have 24 hours of training and live fire training.
3. Psychological evaluation would include:
A. As part of the psychological evaluation, the licensed psychologist interviewed any spouse of the individual, any former spouse of the individual, and at least 2 other persons who are a member of the family of, or an associate of, the individual to further determine the state of the mental, emotional, and relational stability of the individual in relation to fi****ms.
4. You could be denied the license just for being a human being.
A. Ever had depression? Denied
B. Ever talked to a shrink? Denied
