Hi I'll be running a spring color painting class this Friday from 6 - 8 for $25 per person payable directly to me through Paypal or Vemno using [email protected] to find me there.

Our focus will be layering transparent paints and creating color through optical mixture.

Have for a color triad;
quinacridone magenta, red, crimson, permanent rose.
yellow light hansa or yellow azo.
ultramarine blue or phthalocyanine blue
zinc white
titanium white
we will make our own black from the above.

I suggest working on paper like bristol or watercolor.

This intro drawing class will take advantage of the strong graphic quality of Michelangelo’s figurative works. He has done all the hard work of translating the complex form of the human figure into easy to read line work and tone. His works are known as a fantastic educational tool for learning to see and control your drawing tools. We will use black, white, and red pencil on toned paper. We will directly from images I screen share.

In this fun Halloween inspired class you draw and paint a number of Skulls on paper. We will look to skull decorating from various sources to inspire your own unique designs. There will be time to be experimental and make multiple images.

Reminder about Fridays class. Come join me for this fun class where we separate color from object guided by Matisse as our inspiration. Using simple intuitive drawings and layouts you will apply color in an arbitrary way to skies, trees, figures, etc, then react to those choices to complete a spontaneous color work.
We will use paint and chalk.

Milton Glaser, Master Designer of ‘I ♥ NY’ Logo, Is Dead at 91

I just heard Milton Glaser died this past June, one of our most significant and recognizable Designers. Pictured here are three designs of 1000's. In his book Art is Work he states . . . Art is Work: Milton Glaser
If one of the definitions we have concerning art is that it serves its public by reflecting and explaining the world at a particular moment in history, it is hard to believe that design does not serve in a similar way. In any case, the issue has become blurred since art currently seems mostly about money, and designers seem to be increasingly concerned about ethics, the environment, and their effect on the world. There seems to be much confusion about what we mean when we use the word art. I have a recommendation. We eliminate the word art and replace it with work and develop the following descriptions:
1. Work that goes beyond its functional intention and moves us in deep and mysterious ways we call great work.
2. Work that is conceived and executed with elegance and rigor we call good work.
3. Work that meets its intended need honestly and without pretense we call simply work.
4. Everything else, the sad and shoddy stuff of daily life, can come under the heading of bad work.
This simple change will eliminate anxiety for thousands of people who worry about whether they are artists or not, but this is not its most significant consequence. More importantly, it can restore art to a central, useful activity in daily life—something for which we have been waiting for a very long while.
