On Wednesday, we officially broke ground on our brand new, multipurpose, turf athletic field!

"This new field is more than just a place to play," said Rockford University president Dr. Patricia Lynott. "It's a place where leadership is going to be developed, perseverance is going to be tested, and pride is going to be shared."

Today, we will officially break ground on a brand new, multipurpose, turf athletic field. Funding for the new field will come from the State of Illinois's Independent Colleges Capital Investment Grant, the same grant that funded construction of our new baseball and softball fields.

This will be the new home field of football, flag football, and soccer!

In 2026, Women's Baseball comes to Rockford.

Rockford University is thrilled to partner with the International Women’s Baseball Center (IWBC), the Rockford Rivets, GoRockford, the Rockford Park District, and the City of Rockford to announce that the 2026 Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Stage will be held right here in Rockford, Illinois!

As part of this exciting new partnership, Rockford University will host teams from around the world on campus during the World Cup. Players and coaches will have access to dorms and athletic practice fields and equipment during their stay on campus.

At the June 10th press conference announcing the partnership, President Lynott said, “It is a declaration that Rockford honors its past, that we are basking in our present, and that we are boldly going into a future where girls can take the field with pride and communities like ours can take center stage on the world map.”
