Today students in HI353G - The Early Modern World with Professor Anne Daniels visited the Cincinnati Art Museum. The field trip focused on comparing East Asian and European art from the 14th to 18th centuries. Here they're analyzing Chinese influences on 1700s English pottery.

Following in the footsteps of intellectual giants like Larry Gara and Ed Agran, the History Program at Wilmington College will always support the right of students to express dissent through peaceful protest. As anyone who has joined Professor Keith Orejel on the college's Civil Rights Movement trip knows, sit ins are a great American protest tradition that have advanced the causes of social justice and equality in our nation.

Great profile of Wilmington College History Major (and Writing Center tutor for History classes) Shannon Browning!

We are back after the holiday break to introduce PRC/QHC student staff Shannon Browning! Shannon grew up in a rural area of Scioto and Adams County, Ohio. She is a junior at Wilmington College, double majoring in Biology (Environmental Science) and History with a minor in English. While on campus she works as a tutor for English, History, and Writing.

With her love of history, she enjoys working at the Quaker Heritage Center and Peace Resource Center, while gaining important museum and archives experience. Whenever she gets the chance, she travels to different historical locations mainly focused on the U.S. Revolutionary and Civil wars.

Outside of college, she loves to spend time hiking and exploring with her family, along with involvement in two very important organizations: the FFA through her Alumni membership and the Friends of the Scioto Brush Creek (FSBC). Shannon was one of the 35 Wilmington students to receive their American FFA Degree in 2020.

Shannon is currently serving as a board member and scholarship coordinator for the Friends of the Scioto Brush Creek, an environmental conservation organization. Shannon was the FSBC's first scholarship recipient, and initiated a plan to continue the scholarship for others into the future. She has served on the board since age 18, and is currently the board's youngest member. Additionally, she is involved with FSBC's educational programs, such as teaching a class of 7th graders how to test and monitor water quality.

One of the Wilmington College Quaker values that is most important to her is the value of equality because she likes to see all people--no matter their backgrounds--as equals. She believes that the best way to see all others as equals is to think about one's own path in relation to others and to value difference. Every human should be able to make their own path and be treated with equality no matter who they are. Wilmington College

Perspective | Political power keeps shifting from the Rust Belt to the Sun Belt. Here’s why. Census data reveals a continuation of a half century long shift driven by deindustrialization and savvy recruitment.

Mikaela Prescott with the poster for her History senior thesis "Kirk and Colonization" - WINNER of the Public Choice Award and President's Choice Award at today's Student-Faculty Research Forum.

Research posters are traditionally associated with scientific research, but Mikaela's creative, communicative poster showed off what Historians are capable of adding to the genre. This is one of the best showings by a Humanities poster ever in the history of this college-wide event. Congratulations Mikaela!
