Remi Rawlings completed an Honors Contract Competition during the fall 2023 semester, collaborating with her hometown's park district to create and run a walk-a-thon fundraiser 😊

The purpose was to raise money for the town to buy skates that community members could borrow when the outdoor ice skating rink opened in the winter. Both the walk-a-thon and the purpose for raising the money was to increase PA opportunities.

Remi was able to raise $750 and earned 2nd Place in the Honors Contract Contest ⛸🥈

Way to go Remi!!

Recreation Administration Graduate Student Zach Mueller completed a semester long professional practice experience with the Illinois Association of Park District (IAPD).

Zach worked closely with Peter Murphy (IAPD President & CEO) and Jason Anselment (IAPD Legal/Legislative Counsel) to review policy and procedure manuals from numerous park districts, leading to the development of an extensive "best practices" administrative policy & procedure resource for IAPD and its membership.

Zach also participated in several conferences/workshops/events/etc. and visited several park, forest, and conservation districts throughout the professional practice.

Congratulations Zach on an impactful experience!!

ISU Therapeutic Recreation Students attended the Great Lakes Recreational Therapy Student Conference with Dr. Rachel Smith at the Universally Designed Camp Facility of Bradford Woods Indiana!

The students represented ISU well by becoming Champions in the Adaptive Equipment Challenge 🥇 Their design was for "grip its" - the device aids individuals with difficulties with limited motor or strength. The demonstration shows a paddle for kayaking 🚣‍♂️

All competitors were provided the same bag of materials and given limited time to design a piece of low-tech equipment to aid individuals with disabilities.

Awesome Job TR ❤️🤍

Our Recreation & Park Administration Program hosted their Advisory Council for their Spring meeting last Friday. The Advisory Council is composed of current students and professionals in the field.

Council members visited two classes in the morning, toured the newly opened Redbird Esports Facility, connected with each other and RPA Faculty over lunch, and offered input on RPA initiatives during a formal meeting in the afternoon.

RPA deeply values input from students, alumni, and friends as they make decisions for the program and the Advisory Council is one powerful way they collect that input😊
