What's Your Financial Marshmallow? đđ°
Picture this: You're 5 years old, sitting at a table with a fluffy marshmallow in front of you. A researcher says, "You can eat this now, OR wait 15 minutes and get TWO marshmallows."
What do you do? đ
This is the famous Marshmallow Test from the 1960sâand it turns out, those kids who waited? They crushed it later in life. Better grades, healthier relationships, higher income.
Why? Because they mastered the superpower of delayed gratification.
Fast forward to today. You're scrolling Amazon at 2 AM. That "Add to Cart" button is calling your name. Sound familiar?
Here's the plot twist: Every financial decision you make is your own marshmallow test.
đ Your "marshmallow" might be:
That daily $6 coffee (Hello, $2,190/year!)
Impulse online shopping sprees
The latest gadget you "need" RIGHT NOW
Dining out instead of meal prepping
đŻ Your "second marshmallow" could be:
An emergency fund that saves you from stress
Investments that grow while you sleep
The down payment on your dream home
Early retirement (imagine that!)
At The Malcolm Jenkins Foundationâs Financial Literacy Program powered by Money Vehicle, we teach students that every swipe, click, and splurge is a marshmallow testâbecause wealth is built in the pause.
âď¸Challenge: Before your next impulse buy, wait 24 hours. Is this YOUR marshmallow test? We would love to hear your thoughts!

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation proudly joined Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) to celebrate the culmination of a powerful partnershipâone rooted in education, empowerment, and community. Through CMSRUâs JUMP High (Junior Urban Medical Pioneers) program, eight New Jersey high school students and their parents completed TMJFâs Closing the Wealth Gap program, a multi-week financial literacy course powered by TMJF and the nationally recognized Money Vehicle curriculum.
As TMJF celebrates 15 years of impact, initiatives like this one underscore the importance of collaboration, culturally responsive programming, and community-rooted solutions. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Hewlett, CMSRU, and every student, parent, and mentor who made this experience a success.
This is more than a partnership. Itâs a movement toward equity, opportunity, and generational transformationâone family at a time.
