The SAISD Foundation is still collecting items for its Dorm Room Drive — a campaign that ensures our young alumni start college with the basics they need to succeed: luggage, bedding, laundry supplies, toiletries, school supplies, and more. Last year, they served 131 SAISD 2024 graduates and are aiming to serve even more this year!

If you are moved to help, you can donate new or gently used luggage and travel bags, bedding (XL twin) and towels, new pillows and blankets, pop-up laundry hampers or laundry bags and detergent, and shower caddies. Drop off items in the SAISD Central Office lobby, 514 W. Quincy St. until July 21.

Distribution of the items to SAISD’s college-bound students will take place at an in-person send-off at the end of July.

🎉 Our SAISD alumni are achieving in their postsecondary endeavors. In our Alumni Glow Up series, we present to you some of our recent alumni and how they are adapting in their next steps after high school. Today, we present to you Eliajah from St. Philip's Early College High School who is attending Texas Southern University.

Six honorees will be inducted into the SAISD Athletic Hall of Fame this summer. Honorees are Ray Davis (Sam Houston HS / Class of 1983) (basketball), Willie Hall (Brackenridge HS) (football coach), Weldon Humble (posthumously) (Brackenridge HS / Class of 1940) (football), Guido Merkens (Edison HS / Class of 1973) (football), Sharon Neugebauer-Shepard (Jefferson HS / Class of 1981) (volleyball) and the 2000 and 2001 Lanier HS Basketball Teams (back-to-back state tournament). The Burbank High School Orange Jackets had an amazing trip to Disney in Florida last month. They even got to perform at Walt Disney World. Way to represent Burbank and the SAISD Familia!

Congratulations to San Antonio ISD Board President Christina Martinez, one of 25 honorees selected for the 2025 San Antonio Business Journal Women’s Leadership Awards.

Winners represent the area's leaders in a variety of sectors.

“These women have not only achieved a level of success in their careers but also demonstrated a dedication to giving back to the community through their work on boards and volunteer efforts,” the Business Journal said in its announcement.

Martinez is Managing Director for Public Engagement at Up Partnership.

Winners will be recognized at an awards event on Aug. 7.
