Confederates
By Dominique Morisseau
Directed by Stori Ayers
October 26-November 19, 2023
Mosaic Theater presents the regional premiere of Confederates. Sara is an enslaved rebel turned Union spy. Sandra is a tenured professor at a modern-day university. Despite living 160 years apart, their parallel struggles unite them across time. Celebrated American playwright, MacArthur Fellow, and two-time Tony Award nominee Dominique Morisseau (Ain’t Too Proud, Skeleton Crew) forges into brand new modes of storytelling in this breathtakingly fierce examination of history, race, and the women who stand on the frontlines of freedom, no matter the cost.

CRAFT Course Spring Semester! Join us next Saturday May 28th for Anti-Racist Theatre: A Level Up Course with Nicole Brewer!
Level Up is about leveraging your anti-racist theatre ethos in shaping and sustaining an equitable container. We'll look at how the three degrees of racism: interpersonal/individual, institutional, cultural and how the practice of "static equity" combine to hinder our ability to impactfully disrupt racist and oppressive conditions in our collaborations. Level Up also explores how your anti-racist theatre ethos helps you better discern the anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices to support the container that's right for your goal.
Join us in doing the work to make sure theatre is a liberated place for all. Thousands of theatre and culture-workers have taken Nicole's Brewer's Anti-Racist Theatre: A Foundational Course blending anti-racist theory, social justice, collectivism, healing justice and theatre exercises for an embodied understanding of racism and our agency to become anti-racist. We all have a role to play. All who believe the way forward for theatre is anti-racist and anti-oppressive are welcome. The future of art will be nourished by you.”

Repost: Parent Artist Advocacy League] ✨
SUPPORTBLACKPARENTS.
Support. Black Artists.
Since the summer of 2020 Blackboard Plays , and PAL Parent Artist Advocacy League] (Parent Artist Advocacy League), have been working on a play festival for Black playwrights with families. Together, with their two missions, they aligned on the festival's purpose that the
stories of Black parents and Black families needed to be told.
The Black Motherhood and Parenting New Play Festival is the result! This collaboration has been extremely
exciting. Last year, we pioneered a National Digital Tour and are doing it once again this year.
The festival will be awarding each playwright with a financial commission for the workshop as well as a caregiver reimbursement stipend. In order to accomplish this artistic and activist goal on a national scale, P**L and Blackboard are committed to a Black Exclusive Budget (BEB) for every budget line item. This means that only Black artists and administrators will be compensated in the
development and ex*****on of the project with the exception of the honorariums given to actors in accordance to casting requirements, if necessary.

It is an honor to celebrate Women’s History Month with the launch of “Here’s to the Ladies Who”, produced by the Broadway Women’s Alliance! Over the span of 6 months, they interviewed 100 women globally to tell the stories of the last two years since Broadway and theater were shut down due to a global pandemic. I’m thrilled to have participated, and am counting down the days until the premiere of the first episode on Friday, 3/11!
This is a seven-episode series, the first of which features about 40 of the 100 women interviewed, and new episodes will be released every three weeks or so through July. Follow , use , and subscribe to the Broadway Women’s Alliance channel on YouTube✨
