Operating as usual
It's another sweltering day in Central New York with tomorrow expected to be just as hot. Plan accordingly. There are dozens of cooling centers in Onondaga County where you can go (for free!) to beat the heat. I've listed some of them below and you can find the complete list by clicking here: https://www.localsyr.com/news/local-news/check-for-cooling-centers-to-beat-the-heat/
We wish all of you a safe, peaceful and happy Father’s Day! 💙
Attention, SCSD Families: With the impending forecast that includes extremely high temperatures next week, the SCSD has decided to implement three half days next week for students and faculty at its elementary, middle, and Pre-K-8 schools on Tuesday, June 18th, Thursday, June 20th, and Friday, June 21st. Students will be dismissed at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, and 12:00 pm on those days, based on school start times. For questions about the half day schedule, please contact your child's school directly.
Understanding that all high schools have access to air-conditioned environments, all high school Regents examinations and scoring will happen as scheduled. Therefore, high school students and staff will follow the normal planned schedule for those days.
All schools will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th due to the observance of Juneteenth.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep our students and staff safe!
The math is mathing!
SCSD Families: Please be reminded that SCSD schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in observance of Juneteenth.
We look forward to seeing students in school the rest of that week, and through the last day of school on June 25th (which is a half day)!
Attention, SCSD Families: Join us for a celebration of 50 years of the Native American Program in the SCSD!
The event is primarily focused on native families, but anyone in support of the program is welcome to attend (including any families and staff)... the Museum will be open for just this group, with food, dancers, and more. We hope to see you there!
Coming up on June 13th at STEAM at Dr. King Elementary School, don't miss the SCSD Juneteenth Block Party, hosted by the SCSD Office of Family Engagement!
All are welcome - please pre-register to receive FREE food by visiting: https://forms.office.com/r/SkSkTBuqzP?origin=QRCode
We’re so proud of all of our Class of 2024 ! This week, we’re spotlighting the top two academic performers in each SCSD high school. Stay tuned next week as we spotlight additional graduating seniors from each building!
Nottingham High School Salutatorian James Saufley will be attending Cornell University, where he’ll be undeclared but plans to pursue studies in the math department – with ambitions of becoming a high school math teacher one day.
“My two major goals in life are to continue to explore and grow stronger in my religion, and to give back as a teacher – either here at Nottingham or in another city school district,” James shared. “My proudest moment in high school was helping to co-found the Christian Club. It hasn’t been running for close to 20 years, I think; and my sophomore year, I helped get it back up and running and I was able to help it grow. The best part of my high school experience has been being involved in so many different groups. Nottingham is such a diverse school with so many different people with different backgrounds – and the people here, the staff and administration, really care about us. They’ve really built us up.”

Nottingham High School Valedictorian Lucy Lombard will be attending Syracuse University, where she plans to study Psychology on a Pre-Med track – with ambitions of becoming an anesthesiologist one day.
“I had surgery on my knee, and I researched anesthesiologists and it seems like a fulfilling job where I can help others,” Lucy shared. “I hope to help people who are undergoing serious surgery. I want to be the one who helps patients get through a hard time in life. The teachers and faculty at Nottingham have been supportive and have prepared us so well to step into this next chapter. I feel prepared for college because of the rigors I’ve been through here at Nottingham!”
