Parents, We have many items left behind on the lost and found table. A lot of these items were from field day and then out of the locker rooms that kids did not claim yesterday. Please feel free to stop by the building in the next day or two and claim the items that belong to your children.

The Ballard R-2 School District is pleased to be working in conjunction with the Adrian Optimist Club to honor a Student of the Month for the 2021-22 school year.
Student of the Month is selected by the staff of the Ballard R-2 School District using the following criteria: attendance, attitude towards others and school, behavior, leadership, and improvement in or maintenance of good grades, and this month, friendship and honesty.
The Student of the Month for May is Sophomore/Junior Aimee Cummings, daughter of the late Dan Cummings and Yea Cummings.
At school, Aimee enjoys being a member of FFA and participating in Trap. She is a member of Envirothon and the Scholar Bowl team. Aimee is a team player in basketball and softball.
Aimee’s activities outside of school are; playing softball and working at the Bates County Veterinary Clinic.
After graduation, Aimee plans on attending the University of Kansas, majoring in Cellular and Molecular Biology to pursue a career as a pharmaceutical scientist.
Aimee’s inspirational quote is; “It be like that sometimes!”
The Ballard staff has said: “Aimee is a true example of friendship and honesty in her day-to-day walk, and I can always trust that she is being honest and kind to me, along with trusting that she is going to be there for those around her. If she says she will do something she will follow through, and complete that task way beyond my expectations. If I ask her for help she is willing to go above and beyond to help. I know like most of us, she wanted baseball and softball in our district and when that did not happen we were disappointed. However, with a co-op with Montrose, our students were still given the option to play, and she followed through and has gone to another school so that she could play the sport where she created friendships with her team. She was honest with her coaches and team members and showed that they can count on her as a friend.”
For Aimee’s hard work in school, he is receiving a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks.”

Congratulations to our two elementary students, winners of May’s Student of the Month. Ellee and Summer are excellent examples of students demonstrating our character traits for May – Friendship and Honesty!

Their teachers had the following words of encouragement and kindness.

Ellee consistently displays the character traits of friendship and honesty in the classroom and on the playground. She tries to be a good friend to everyone even when it's not easy. I think most of her classmates would consider her a good friend to have. Ellee is also honest all the time. She is sincere, loyal, and trustworthy, which is important in being a good friend.

This month's words were Friendship and Honesty. Summer is a great example of both of these traits. She is a very kind and caring friend to others, she helps them with school work if they need it, and just makes sure that her friends are doing okay. Summer is also very honest, even when it doesn't necessarily benefit her. She always tells me and her peers the truth, no matter what. I've enjoyed watching Summer grow into an even more honest and caring person over the past few months and I know she will continue to grow in these traits and more as she continues in school.

Great job, Ladies! Keep up the fabulous work!

Mrs. Lovelace plans to use her funds to purchase an elementary social skills kit that will help students better understand the complexities of feelings and reactions to their feelings in order to grow emotional intelligence and respond responsibly.

Student of the Month is selected by the staff of the Ballard R-2 School District using the following criteria: attendance, attitude towards others and school, behavior, leadership, and improvement in or maintenance of good grades, and this month, perseverance and integrity.
The Student of the Month for April is Junior Tucker Roach, son of Rusty and Melody Roach.

Tucker’s activities outside of school are; 4-H, He likes to go hunting and fishing when he can. Tucker enjoys working on the farm and his lawn care business.

The Ballard staff has said: “Tucker shows integrity in his day-to-day walk, I can always trust that he is being honest with me, along with trusting his words. If he says he will do something he will follow through and complete that task. He is motivated to complete tasks the correct way, even if he does not want to. If I ask him for help he is willing to go above and beyond to help. I know like most of us, we wanted baseball and softball in our district and when that did not happen we were disappointed. However, with a co-op with Montrose, our students were still given the option to play, this upset a number of students, but he followed through and has gone to another school so that he could play the sport. To me this shows perseverance.”

Congratulations to our two elementary students, winners for April's Student of the Month. Arabella and Aspyn are excellent examples of students demonstrating our character traits for April – Perseverance and Integrity!

Their teachers had the following words of encouragement and kindness.

I am very proud of Arabella Fisher. She is consistently displaying integrity and perseverance. She does this by always working hard on her work, even when it is not easy. She puts her best foot forward and does the best she can. She also works hard to be a leader and do the right thing, even when someone's not looking. She sets a good example for her classmates to follow. Way to go, Arabella!

Our character words this month are integrity and perseverance. Integrity means doing the right thing even when nobody is watching. After having her in my class for a whole school year, I can say with confidence that Aspyn shows integrity on a regular basis. She is quiet when she needs to be quiet and obeys directions well; often when her classmates are not.
Aspyn also has had great perseverance this year. I see her pushing herself to be better and overcome the hurdles life throws at her. I am proud to award Aspyn with student of the month for integrity and perseverance.

Great job, Ladies! Keep up the fabulous work!

Congratulations to Melinda (Lindy) Gunter, March's student of the month winner!!!
Kind words from Lindy’s teachers:

Lindy is always respectful and cooperative with both her peers and teachers. She works hard and is willing to improve and is also willing to try new things. Lindy is very respectful to the teachers and staff as well as her fellow classmates. I enjoy seeing her smile when I pass her in the halls. Lindy is a quiet young lady who is always very respectful. She fully cooperates even when she doesn't really like the task at hand and gives it her full potential. She stepped up and gave a speech in public this year, which was a huge accomplishment for her. She stepped out of her comfort zone to try and succeeded in Leadership Development Event - LDE public speaking. She also has been a very cooperative team player when it came to contest season and Career Development Event - CDE contest, she joined two boys to create a team for the Soils Contest and has put in numerous hours studying and preparing for something she didn't know much about and really wasn’t interested in. It has paid off and their team will compete at the state level this year. She is kind, caring, and respectful and always jumps in when needed without being asked. I am very proud of Lindy and can't wait to watch her grow more.

For Lindy’s hard work in school, she is receiving a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks.”

Congratulations to our two elementary students, winners for March's Student of the Month. Emmalee and McKenzie are excellent examples of students demonstrating our character traits for March – Cooperation and Respect!
Their teachers had the following words of encouragement and kindness for these two students.

Cooperation and respect go hand in hand for Emmalee. She is always respectful of those around her. This often plays out in being easy to get along with and cooperative in nature. In class, I rarely have to ask her twice to do a task. She listens and follows instructions very well. Something that sticks out about Emmalee is that she is not only respectful of adults, she also respects her peers. I see it in her kindness and generosity toward her classmates. Because of this, I think Emmalee Scott is very deserving of this award for Cooperation and Respect. Keep up the great work Emmalee!

McKenzie has worked very hard to learn the difference between being a leader and being bossy. She demonstrates her ability to cooperate with her classmates in class daily. During group work or games McKenzie has taken the role of a leader seriously. She keeps her groups on task and tries her best to be fair. She is always willing to put other’s needs before her own. She shows that she understands cooperation by being a team player when organizing or cleaning our classroom as well.
McKenzie is a very respectful student. She does her best to follow our rules, and uses her manners in her daily life. I see her being respectful to teachers as well as her peers. I am so proud of her growth this year.
