Today, students heard a FIRST HAND ACCOUNT of desegregation of York One Schools from Mrs. Janice Moore, our front office hero! We are immersing our students in learning experiences by connecting them with close-to-home sources of knowledge! We are so thankful for people like Mrs. Moore who carry the torch of York’s history each day to share with our students! York integrated in 1970 when Mrs. Moore (c/o 1977) was in 7th grade. After attending a segregated Jefferson Elementary (the building where YOA is now located!), Mrs. Moore attended York High School (now Harold C. Johnson Elementary) and went on to be part of history as a member of the first graduating class from the “new” York Comprehensive High School building in 1977 (now York Middle School!).
