The MEP works with schools, families, & community organizations to support migratory agri families.

Migrant Education is a national program that provides supplemental instructional and support services to hundreds of thousands of eligible migrant children each year. The families of Migrant children seek temporary or seasonal work in agriculture, fishing, or related industries. They follow the growing seasons across the country and are largely responsible for the cultivation and harvest of fruits

Operating as usual

Serving out-of-school youth & pre-k is another facet to services provided through the Migrant Education Program across the state. When workers come to Arkansas on work visas, we provide life skills & English lessons.

Preparing preschool age children for kindergarten readiness is also highly important to ensure they can keep up with their classmates. Great work GFESC Migrant staff!

Brandi and Darla, along with DeQueen and Centerpoint Schools, had an EYE-OPENING time while teaching students about the importance of brushing and flossing their teeth regularly, morning and night... some of us REALLY had a surprise!! We all pledged to try harder on our brushing habits! :)
That made Mr. "SO-SAD" TOOTH become Mr. "SO-GLAD"!

BUSY! BUSY! This word is not BIG enough to illustrate the amount of time and effort that goes into coordinating toy/gift distributions to the entire Region 5 non-project student roster! But BOY! Was it worth it! The smiling faces and joyful hearts of these recipients will leave a lasting impression on our Migrant staff! Thank you to TOYS-4-TOTS for helping with our Christmas donations to all of our students/families! Brandi was also busy with Christmas book readings and crafts that the students loved!

Many Migrant students attended the Fall 2023 AMESLA in Little Rock at the 4-H Center, hosted by AR Migrant Education and the ExCel Challenge. This state initiative instills values of community and leadership within these students and leaves them with relationships they can treasure for a lifetime!
Here are a few of the students that attended from the DeQueen Public Schools.

Let’s go Cheryl!

Cheryl Green was chosen by the Arkansas Early Childhood Special Education Unit as one of only 6 coaches to implement the Pyramid Model in Early Childhood in Arkansas. Dierks Preschool was chosen as only one of 6 sites to pilot the program! The Pyramid project works with the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations and is a three year program designed to build local capacity for social and emotional and behavioral intervention for early childhood students. The first two years will be spent developing practices at the implementation sites where the practices will be observed, taught and analyzed by Coaches and members of the support team from DESE and NCPMI. We are so EXCITED and PROUD of Cheryl and our Dierks site for being chosen!
