Not to be outdone, our final group from the Bioimmersive Capstone ACCTC BioMed makes a 100% pass rate for the program. Kamani (AHS) and Savannah (NAHS) earned the BACE certification! BACE stands for Biotechnician Assistant Credentialing Exam and the exam has a national pass rate percentage in the 60s. It is a very difficult exam, but these two powered through and are officially Biotechnician Assistants!

Today we remember our beloved student, friend, and teammate Emily Heath. Emily was a cornerstone of our Biomedical Science family. She was beautiful, sassy, smart, and headstrong--a key piece of our puzzle! We will forever miss her and hold on tight to the memories that we shared with her.

Emily was in the first ever cohort of the Biomedical Science program at the Aiken County Career and Technology Center. She was a founding member of the Biomedical Science Outreach Team and Student of the Quarter numerous times. Emily was Co-Student of the Year for the Biomedical Science Program for the 2022-2023 school year. She competed at the SC HOSA Spring Leadership Conference and served as the ACCTC HOSA Vice-President for the fall of 2023. Emily earned industry certifications in OSHA-10, CPR and AED, YouScience Biotechnology, and the Biotechnician Assistant Certification Exam (BACE), a college level biotechnology assessment. Emily participated in the Miss CATE pageant twice, winning the Casual Wear award in 2022. Emily was primary author on a peer-reviewed poster presentation at the National Science Teachers Association Conference in 2023 and co-author of a second.

Please hold Emily's family and friends, the Silver Bluff High School family, and our ACCTC family in your hearts as we grieve. To celebrate what Emily meant to us, please enjoy a few of many favorite memories.

Emily's peers shared the following thoughts about her:
"She was one of the rocks of our class. She helped me get through exams and inspired me to keep working in outreach. She always had a smile & something to say."
"Emily was the sweetest person. She would always give my friends and I pep talks for the phlebotomy program. She was there we needed help with labs."
"To know Emily was to love Emily. Her bright smile could light up any room she walked in. I'm honored to say I had the opportunity to work alongside her."
"Emily was a very bright person and she would always bring good energy. She was very helpful and always giving and loving. She is in a better place resting but she is missed a lot and loved forever."
"Emily lit up the room every chance she got. She was a big help on my second year in the bio class. I'm going to miss her coming to class with McDonald's lol."
"Emily was so inspirational. She was her own boss. She was silly, loving, and full of sass!! She will forever be loved and missed by her biomedical family."
"Emily was the best person I have ever known. Dr. P putting me in a group with her was the best decision she made. Emily always had to force me to talk, because I was the quietest person ever. She has had a tremendous impact not only on me but everyone around her. Although we didn't talk much outside of school, our time in class is what kept me motivated throughout the day. I've always thought of Emily as a sister because we both mocked each other (it was mostly me doing the mocking). I was supposed to write this on a sticky note but all of my thoughts would not have fit on that. Emily was truly loved by everyone and she will be missed."

Rest in peace, Emily. We miss you.
