Why do we eat dairy on Shavuot? One reason is that the Torah is compared to milk and honey in the Shir ha-Shirim (Solomon's Song of Songs). As Shavuot celebrates the day the Torah was given to the Jewish people, they eat the food that the Torah was compared to. Join us on Zoom on Sunday, June 9, at 4 p.m. (PST) and 7 p.m. (EST) to learn more about this holiday while making CJA's Cheesy Spinach Artichoke Puff Patry. Cook, Learn and Connect with us. Shavuot and The Book of Ruth.

Many explanations are given for reading The Book of Ruth on Shavuot. The most quoted reason is that Ruth’s coming to Israel took place around Shavuot, and her acceptance into the Jewish faith was analogous to the acceptance of the Jewish people of God’s Torah. Come and learn all about this tradition on Sunday, June 9 @ 4:00 p.m. (PST) 7:00 pm (EST) on ZOOM. Cook, Learn, and Connect with us. Lag B'Omer is a festive Jewish holiday that celebrates the resilience of the Jewish spirit. Many people celebrate with picnics, barbecues, and bonfires. In some circles, it is customary to eat carobs on Lag B'Omer. This commemorates a lifesaving miracle that Rabbi Shimon experienced: a carob tree grew at the cave entrance where he had been hiding for 13 years and provided nourishment for his survival. Cook, Learn and Connect with us on Sunday, May 26, 4:00 p.m. (PST) and 7:00 p.m. (EST) on ZOOM. We're making CJA's Carob Banana Muffins. It's family-friendly! During Passover, we are reminded and reflect on the journey the Hebrews took and the trust and mistrust they needed to overcome. The narrative highlights the danger of being entrenched in narrow perspectives and the importance of embracing change, openness to diverse viewpoints, and standing against injustice.
