Project Rebound

Project Rebound is a program assisting formerly incarcerated individuals wanting to enter and succeed at California State University, San Bernardino. The program is an alternative to the revolving door policy of the criminal justice system. By offering a program which encourages students to excel in a course of study, Project Rebound discourages this policy. The program offers admission for men and women who might not normally qualify for university acceptance because of application deadlines.

Project Rebound was started in 1967 at San Francisco State University by the late Professor John Irwin. However, Carolyn Eggleston (Professor, Special Education) and Annika Anderson (Assistant Professor, Sociology) started the program at CSUSB in 2016. The program is staffed by one full-time coordinator, who might have had prior incarceration experiences. The program coordinator acts as a liaison with campus services and programs, as well as with community organizations in order to serve as an advocate for people on campus and in the community.

The program seeks to admit full-time students to California State University, San Bernardino who are motivated to succeed in a field of study which leads to a Baccalaureate/Master’s Degree. By offering resources and connections with supportive entities, Project Rebound attempts to help students with their basic needs so that they can concentrate on gaining expertise in their field of study and achieve educational and personal empowerment
