Being in band means you are part of something bigger than yourself. The Cockrill Band is the biggest band in McKinney ISD and these musicians treat each other as family. We' love to welcome your rising sixth grader into our Beginner Band program. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Wiechmann at the email address provided on the handout your fifth grader received from their home campus regarding fine arts selection for middle school. No matter how many band students we have, there is always room for one more! Work hard, play hard.

What do I do if my incoming sixth grader has never played an instrument?

Don't worry! We know that many students have never had the opportunity to play an instrument before. We work with our Beginner Band members to help them learn exactly what they need to know to be successful in the band hall. We begin at the very beginning- from how to carry an instrument case to correctly assemble an instrument and play it. Our goal is to create a supportive, engaging performance environment and that starts on day one with your student. Our students work hard, study hard, and play hard.

Awesome from our 3rd graders today! We just learned our new note - re, sang a melody using do, re, & mi, applied the pattern to boomwhackers, & identified it as the song Pitter Patter. They rocked it!
