Just saw "Atalanta " with an original score by composer Nathan Sherwood Liang, and a stunning group of gifted young actors! With the guidance of their beyond - brilliant director, Emma Stearns, a creative fight choreographer who stepped up to play "Aphrodite" , and a strong creative team, the actors brought this myth to life! Though I wrote the play ,the actors revealed aspects of the characters I myself was surprised and delighted to see! They discovered nuances, rhythms,, humor! This constellation of bright stars is One To Watch! Thanks to Jeannie Harrison for her determination to make this play GO! and for her continued faith in my work!
Please let us see "Atalanta " again! And let's hear it for Traveling Players Ensemble (TPE), and Ensemble Acting-- personified by the "Atalanta " cast !
Thrilled to be in the audience today, at TPE 's Tysons Corner Studio to see the amazing young actors perform in "Atalanta "! They could not have been more brilliant-- such confidence, wit and terrific physical acting! They found the nuances of emotion and also the humor-- and I, the playwright-- was absorbed and delighted throughout by the professionalism of the talented actors! This group is a constellation to watch! Brava to Director Emma Stearns and her crew-- and bravo to Nathan Sherwood Liang, the young San Francisco composer who created the original score. This is Ensemble at its best! Thank you, Jeannie Harrison for your persistence in mounting the play!

Our Story

Traveling Players Ensemble provides innovative and exclusive theater training with award-winning summer camps & pre-professional programs. Serving students in grades 3-12 in the DC-metro area. Bringing Great Theatre in the Great Outdoors! Join us!

Our summer camp provides beginner through advanced classical theatre training to small troupes of actors who are carefully guided by professional theatre artists to perform in outdoor settings. Our program reflects the origins of theatre, when troupes of actors roamed the ancient and medieval countryside, relying on the barest props and boldest imagination to convey their art. Each session culminates in a fully mounted and designed performance which tours to several locations, cultivating stronger, more adaptable and capable artists and individuals.

Traveling Players emphasizes a meaningful engagement with nature. Our unique day camp (Monday-Friday) features a campout every Thursday - when performers learn Leave No Trace camping techniques, pitching tents and cooking outdoors. In their final week, teens tour their show and campout close to their performance sites - giving them the experience of wandering entertainers who carry their dinner, tent and props in their trusty pack. As artists and backpackers, campers learn self-reliance, creative problem solving, and to appreciate challenges and beauty.

Our Accomplishments:
•Selected as a model "Summer School in the Arts" by the NEA - One of 25 in the Nation
•Twice featured on WAMU's "Metro Connection"
•Called "a little-known summer gem" by The Washington Post
•14 students won their school's English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition
•Awarded 210 scholarships totaling $199,835
•Over 4900 happy campers!
•634 performances, including:
-Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage - Colonial Williamsburg -International Children's Festival at Wolf Trap - Reston Multicultural Festival -Folger Shakespeare Library's Secondary School Festival -- Lime Kiln Theater
