The Rahr Memorial School Forest is a place of learning for students in the Manitowoc Public School District. Located along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, the School Forest has been an environmental education facility for over fifty years.
Within the nearly 300 acres there are mixed forests, stands of pine, sand dunes, fields, a swamp, and a pond; all of which offer a unique learning environment. Elementary students visit the School Forest with their teachers one to three times each school year. Classes align with what the students are learning at school. During the 2010-2011 year, the School Forest had over 10,000 visitors.

[01/12/12] Cute kid moment of the day: after a great hike down to the beach, the 5K group lines up at the doors of the ELC to go inside. All of a sudden one of the students drops to the ground and makes a snow angel (in the 1/4 inch of snow). Next thing you know all 30 students are on the sidewalk and there are snow angels all around. The adults just stood there is quiet awe of their excitement of the snow.
