"I am a plein air and studio painter who draws inspiration from my environment. I consider myself very blessed to have as my home a wonderful environment in which I paint: the north shore of Lake Superior! I have been honing my painting skills for over 40 years. It is my intention to draw my viewers into my work, to see something with more depth and meaning that meets the surface. I work in layers, often painting an under painting in acrylic paint in the opposite or complementary color from the oil or alkyd layer that will go over the acrylic layer. I strive to bring a sense of peace and serenity to my viewers of my work. I consider myself a realist/impressionist and work on several series of paintings concurrently. Please visit my web site for more detailed information: www.sandipillsbury.com "

KTWH Graphic Design Contest EXTENDED DEADLINE NEWS
KTWH celebrated 5 years on the air in September of 2020! Sadly, our anniversary was right in the middle of COVID…we need your help to bring attention to our small but powerful station. Our listeners have a lot of artistic talent that could help make that happen. We’d welcome special artwork to celebrate our years on the air at 99.5 FM as Two Harbors Community Radio. KTWH is holding a contest for listener supporters to submit artwork to be used for station premium gifts to donors in 2021 and beyond. Whether you are a professional artist, a student, or a hobbyist with a passion, we look forward to seeing your ideas.
Everyone is welcome to submit a design or two. We ask that you get it into our hands at KTWH by midnight on June 11th. We plan on publicly sharing the designs outside our studios and on our website starting June 15th. We’ll collect listener votes for best designs until June 28th, and we’ll announce a winner by July 5th!. We’ll keep artists’ work anonymous during the viewing/voting phase, so please don’t write or sign your name on your artwork.
Submissions may be made online to [email protected], by mail at PO Box 622 Two Harbors MN 55616, or dropped off at the station by arrangement (call 218-595-6195). You can email or call us with any questions. A vector graphic format submission is requested. A PDF file is the most commonly used file type that works for submitting your design online. Other acceptable file types are EPS, CDR, and AI. A hard copy of your original artwork is also acceptable, but KTWH cannot return your submitted copy.
⮚ For the contest we ask you to submit the drawing on a standard white background. Artists may want to incorporate visual elements that remind us of where we live and how community radio fits into our north shore setting. You have the option to incorporate the call letters KTWH into the design. KTWH will be adding messaging text above and below the design on the final products that will be created from the winning design(s). KTWH reserves the right to crop or revise the design in the finished product.
⮚ Single color designs are less expensive to screen or imprint on shirts, totes, and mugs and are preferred by KTWH due to budget concerns.
⮚ Digitally submitted work will be scaled up or down as needed for use by KTWH. Hard copy artwork should fit on an 8.” X 11” sheet for easy reproduction by KTWH.
Check in starting June 15th to our Two Harbors Community Radio page and the homepage at KTWH.org to view the submitted graphic designs. Email us your choice of favorite design right on the website: [email protected], or come look at the pieces in the atrium of the Harbor Landing Building and submit your choice on one of the ballot forms that you’ll find next to the artwork. The winning design will be determined based on listener input, with the final decision made by the Two Harbors Community Radio Board of Directors.
GOOD LUCK CREATING A WINNING DESIGN FOR KTWH! Winners will receive a gift certificate to Louise’s Place in downtown Two Harbors, a sampler of all our current and upcoming 2021 KTWH designer merchandise, your name in lights on the radio, and eternal gratitude and acknowledgment.

INTRODUCING PAULA ANDERSON...
Art has been a part of my life as far back as I remember. Stick figures, finger paints, magazine collages. At an early age I had come upon a signature picture - everything I drew had a tree with a big hole and a squirrel in it. Every chance I had to draw or doodle was taken - my quizzes and tests were pretty - and when given a choice of an elective at school, it was always art. I was fortunate to have had a high school art teacher that had a side job in commercial art and inspired me to pursue it in college.Love and babies may have cut my college days short but never my art. Trying to find myself through my art I have tried many different genres, mediums, and surfaces. I find oils one of my favorite mediums and watercolors one of my most challenging - you never stop learning. Over the years I have done paintings to give as gifts and sometimes have taken long breaks from painting. I did find that I enjoy making jewelry and home decor out of the things I find on the North Shore - beach glass, stones, pieces of birch bark and driftwood.
Some big life changes helped me decide to retire, sell my house and move to the place that brings me peace - the North Shore. The desire to start painting again drew me to a painting class at Mocha Moose. Where I met Helen Hartley and she invited me to come check out the Voyageur Art Club. Both the art classes and art club have given me my art life back and I have met some amazing people. These people help push me to look at my art through different eyes, the camaraderie of painting and talking art with other artists is wonderful and I look forward to exploring art in my new “neighborhood” with the collaboration of my new art friends.
"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance."

The first exhibit of art by the “Voyageur Art Club” took place on June 30, 1964, with 46 exhibitors, 200 paintings and over 400 visitors on the first day. It was located in the Paramount Building after one of the early founders, Vi Olson and her husband, Warner envisioned such a gallery in Two Harbors. Vi was one of a small group (including F***y Riley) who had been meeting in each other’s homes after taking art classes at U.M.D.
In 1994, the group moved into the Art Center and has continued to maintain a gallery and educational space for artists and art enthusiasts in the region. An important component of their mission is to provide scholarships to area high schoolers pursuing on-going education in art, and host workshops in a variety of art media. A weekly watercolor class is taught at the center (from 10-12 on Thursdays).
