The College of Southern Idaho will be closed Friday, November 11, 2022, in recognition of Veteran's Day. Offices will re-open for normal business hours on Monday, November 14, 2022.
Originally named “Armistice Day,” this holiday was first celebrated in the US to honor the end of World War I which occurred on November 11, 1918. In November of 1919, President Woodrow Wilson announced the first tribute to this ending of global hostilities noting: “Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service…” But, in 1954, in an effort to recognize the sacrifices made by US soldiers in World War II and Korea, the word “armistice” was replaced with “veterans,” widening the scope of the holiday to honor veterans of all wars.
