SPARK Day #5:
It was the final day of our fabulous week of service! This day is always so bittersweet but important to trust that the lessons we have taught this week will continue to resonate in these 16 amazing youth as they continue their journey closer to Jesus...
Here's what we did today! We had Karen Kemble McIntire as a witness of faith and she gave an excellent talk on her struggles of losing her dad (in the physical sense).... Then we started to get right to work on the main project of the day, which was preparing and serving a delicious lunch for the Parish staff workers. We only took a break one time and that was to say a prayer with the older teens before they embarked on their exciting Steubenville adventure! God bless Hollie Danis and all the souls accompanying her this weekend!
...... Our lunch was pretty fantastic!! We decided to use an Indian theme for our special meal to help welcome Father Michael to our warm, church family! We looked up easy recipes, decorated the undercroft, prepared all the food, and some of us even learned a few Indian dance moves to show off! :)
After serving the dessert, we surprised one of our own fantastic Sparks with a birthday song! Some of us even baked cookies and cake balls at home for the occasion!
After spending this special time with our guests, we worked hard to clean up the undercroft and restore it back to normal.... Then we went outside to conclude this magnificent week with an old-fashioned water balloon toss... the toss off course was followed by letting us all try to attack each other with these liquid-filled orbs of joy! Many of us got soaked and it was a blast!! Again, it's really a shame that such a wonderful week has to end but our journey remains ongoing! The best part is that we have a stronger bond with our fellow Sparks to help us through...

Spark Day #4:
It was such a busy day filled with so much wonderful service! First we made inspirational placemats for the people of the Soup Kitchen.... we delivered the placemats and did lots of chores around the kitchen. We weeded, made lots of peanut butter sandwiches, and cleaned the tables!!!
Then we came back to the undercroft and listened to a scripture reading in a Lectio Divina activity! It was so peaceful and God's holy work was all around!
... Next, we made baby blankets for Miami County Right To Life and we filled several goodie bags for the older teens who are heading off on their Steubenville retreat this weekend..... the last activity of service that we enjoyed was writing letters of encouragement to a young gentleman who is new to our parish but is currently finishing up his sentence in the local prison.... We know that everybody makes mistakes but those shortcomings do not define us as being the amazing beings of light that we were born to be! We are all descendants of Christ and therefore worthy of infinite second chances!! Always a chance to reinvent yourself!! Praise be to God!!! What a great week!!! Only one more amazing day left!!

Day 3 of SPARK: another huge success!!! We were visited by Michael Ham! He's an incredible young adult in our community whose devotion to a life of goodness is a tribute for many! Some people say disabled but he is perfectly 'ABLED' in sooo many ways especially with his gift for public speaking! God gave us all unique gifts too so that we can help people! What's yours??
After that we played a rousing game of "Pop-the-balloon-tied-to-someone's ankle" Ahhh sooo fun!!!
.... Next we spent some quality time with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration! So peaceful!
We enjoyed a special lunch of Little Caesar's pizza as a reward for some of our good deeds! Of course we don't serve with the desire of getting something in mind but when it happens we're eternally grateful!
We ended the day with a huge splash at the Troy Aquatic Park!! This is such an amazing week and I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!!!

Day 2 of Spark Camp was great!!! We spent the morning at a nursing home!! There is a beautiful resident who just turned 100!! We remembered her from last year's Noodle Ball game so we had to sing a birthday song and get a group pic! We played Noodle Ball and sang lots of patriotic songs with residents struggling with their memories! It was such a great day of service!
Our fun activity was a cut-throat game of bowling! Of course we're all winners with God! Can't wait for tomorrow!!

It was the first day of SPARK camp!! Every summer we take a group of 6th-8th graders and make wonderful things happen in the community... Our numbers are small but they are certainly mighty!! It only takes one of us to ignite an endless ripple of love upon the world... That is our greatest mission! We strive to let Christ shine through our bodies so that other people may be inspired to act in the same ways.... Today we had a fun time getting to know each other while doing some much needed chores.... We sanitized the entire Nursery in the Undercroft and degreased the kitchen! We even made cookies to share with others!! Can't wait for more Holy works tomorrow! :)

Sunday Morning Joy, Joy, Joy! Preschool, Children's Liturgy, and Nursery!

Parents, here's a reminder of what we have to offer families during the 9:30 Mass at St. Patrick Church!

Each Sunday, year-round, we offer babysitting in the undercroft nursery for children 6 months and up. We have qualified adults, assisted by teens to watch your little ones while you participate in mass. Simply enter through the side undercroft ramp door, and proceed across to the nursery. You may drop your children off at 9:15 am and then pick them up right after mass.

Also, during 9:30 Mass year-round, we offer Children's Liturgy, which is for ages Kindergarten up to grade 4. Children go to mass with their families, and then are called forth by Father right after the opening prayer to be lead down to the undercroft for an age appropriate children's Liturgy of the Word. The children
are then brought back up to church in time for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Ideally, we try to bring the children back right after the offertory, but occasionally due to timing of the Mass, we will bring them in at another appropriate time, so not to disrupt the Mass.

Beginning Sunday, October 2, Pre-School Faith Formation will resume in the undercroft, which makes it easy for parents to drop off their children. We are in the rear corner of the undercroft, with a nice setting each week. Class is during the 9:30 mass. Bring you child to the undercroft before mass, and pick up after the mass. We are separate from Children's Liturgy. We use a Sunday Gospel based curriculum for the children, so they are getting the Sunday message, which is nice for family home discussion. The teacher is Mrs. Karen McIntire, who also does a great job with 1st grade on Tuesday evenings. The fees for the year are just $25.00. We will keep registration open all year, so you may sign up when you feel your child is ready. At that time, we'll prorate your fee. It's helpful if you register before you bring your child. That way we can have enough supplies. Please join us!

For questions or to register for pre-school, call or email Marty Phillips,
Elementary/Early Childhood Faith Formation Coordinator 937-307-3568 or [email protected].

Calling All First Graders!

Just a reminder of our parish policy on receiving the Sacraments of First Communion and First Reconciliation in second grade:

Religious instructions are required one year prior to and the year of the reception of a sacrament. So, for your child to receive First Communion and First Reconciliation on time in second grade, he/she needs to be enrolled in first grade faith formation on time. Elementary Faith Formation begins Tuesday, September 2. If you have missed this deadline, please call, as we have "catch-up" options available. For more information or to register, please
contact Marty Phillips, Elementary Faith Formation Coordinator 937-307-3568.

SPARK Day #5:
Yesterday was a full day of work and a whole lot of fun!!!! The kids finished the baby blankets and delivered them to Miami County Right To Life. They prepared and served a meal to the Parish Staff! They even disposed of all the old salt and pepper in the undercroft, cleaned the containers, and filled them with fresh contents!! The end of our day was even more fun and WET!! We participated in a water balloon toss and even a little balloon fight!!! Many of us got soaked!! At the close of the day, we got a Popsicle and many starbursts!!! What an amazing week!!!

We are SO blessed by this group! This is our 6th year of working with SPARK kids and every year gets better and better! It truly feels miraculous to be able to inspire others to shine their light in the world! In today's dark times especially, we need more sparks of love and kindness!

Keep Shining!!!

We walked over to the Soup Kitchen to deliver our cookies and placemats!! We also did a lot of work to help prepare for the meals!! So many potatoes were put into bags, countless slices of bread were slathered with butter, and tons of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were made!!! It feels good to help the Kitchen in the noble mission of feeding the hungry!!When we got back to the church, we participated in some wonderful Eucharistic Adoration and just enjoyed each other's company with some games! Our day ended by watching a great video on Mother Teresa!! What a shining example of an amazing spark of kindness in the History books!!! :)
