For my students and families to keep them up to date on performances and for further study on the composer/ concept of the week that they hear in lessons
Some voice and piano students are only interested in making music but others want to understand more about the music they are drawn to. It's been rewarding to see so many young piano students excited to hear about this week's composer. My goal is to help kids understand the stories behind the people and the times. Music can grip us even if we don't understand why but for those curious to know more or perform more, this page is full of information.
Yay! The music is out.
Please let me know if you need me to order a music packet for you and don’t forget to sign up for the workshops.
Best of luck tomorrow in your auditions at Class Act Productions
Congratulations to my Woodlands high school students who made chamber choir! can’t wait to get started on that region choir music with you ladies.
Region Choir Workshops
Ms Becker and I will be running weekly high school region choir training sessions by voice part. This will operate as a club, where you join for the summer.
The cost is $20 per week, paid monthly. Because we need to cover the staffing cost, the charge applies even if you are on vacation so that we can provide these weekly sessions at a low cost. These will run 8 weeks from the week of June 9 until August 4, skipping the week of July 28. So the total cost is $160 for the whole summer plus music.
We intend to both work with these groups but if attendance does not support two teachers, then Ms. Becker will run these herself. And if we get more than ten per class, we will drop the price to $15 per week to make it more affordable for all.
These workshops will be Tuesdays at 10 for Altos, 11 for Basses and Wednesdays at 10 for Tenors and 11 for Sopranos. If we are not ready to do these in person, we will use zoom.
These are for any voice teachers students- not just students of The Barlow Studios.
I am super excited to announce that this summer begins a collaboration between The Barlow Studios and Hannah Becker.
Ms. Becker is the choir director for Bear Branch Junior High and also a proficient piano player. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baylor University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Music Education, where she competed in various vocal competitions. She is available to teach voice or beginning piano.
She is happy to work on all kinds of vocal music, and she will be teaching Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She intends to continue in the fall teaching one or two days a week after school at my house.
This is a song blowing up on TikTok today.
Music is about more than just notes
I debated how to respond as a teacher to this health crisis. We have already gotten into habits or hand washing and cleaning the piano. With the national emergency declaration and the cancellation of schools, I wanted to be sure to respond appropriately.
So this week while the schools continue to be closed, I will be doing normal lessons but over FaceTime or Skype. Most of my colleagues are doing the same.
[03/15/20] CMTAs Spring festival is cancelled and the money will be refunded. This is unfortunate for all the students preparing but I do believe the right decision was made.
There is one more day to see this wonderful musical. Break a leg to all my students who are thoroughly enjoying their experience in Class Act Productions Frozen jr.

CLASS ACT PRODUCTIONS PROUDLY PRESENTS MARTIN LIITTJOHANN AS A DELIVERY MAN AND A TOWNSPERSON IN “A CHRISTMAS STORY”! Martin is a 9th grader at The Woodlands H.S.. He's part of the school’s Varsity Choir. He performed in 19 Productions including mainstage and summer stock Class Act musicals. He loves musical theatre. His favorite musicals include Oliver and the WIZARD OF OZ. He holds the Life rank in Scouts BSA and is working towards his Eagle Scout rank. It was a dream come true when Martin was able to perform on stage as an Adult Munchkin – The Braggart, a Flying Monkey, and a Citizen of Oz in the 2017 production of THE WIZARD OF OZ. Grab your Christmas spirit and see “A Christmas Story” on December 20, 21, and 22. The shows are held at Stonebridge Church, 1 Stonebridge Drive, The Woodlands. Music requires excellent technique, passion, and vulnerability along with an understanding of both the intent of the composer and our own story. In order to produce a melody worth listening to, we must execute the notes well while connecting them to our emotion and our experiences.
I work with students in several capacities to help them break out of whatever limits their abilities or their product.
Private Instruction in my home for Piano or Voice: I maintain a private studio of almost 50 students. At this time, I am full for students in school and only have 2 openings for adults or homeschooled people. These students may participate in judged events.
Private Instruction in a school: Three days a week, I work with students at Bear Branch Junior High School. These students may also participate in judged events.
Accompaniment: I play piano for students or groups at several local schools. Typically I accompany students who are playing their band/orchestra instrument or singing for UIL Solo & Ensemble contests.
Group Cleanup: I love polishing a group that contains vocalists. I am the musical director for the All-Star Cast of the Texas Thespians (2017-2021) and for AXS: Broadway Experience (2017+). I have also worked with the vocalists of a drum corps and helped a marching band with their vocals. I have also enjoyed working with a church worship team towards the same goal.
Audition Prep: Coming soon- audition seminars to help prepare students for the extra challenges of putting their best foot forward in 60 seconds!
