This week's student of the week is Zelda Toh!
Zelda started music lessons from a very young age. She began learning the piano from Ms. Mary Loy at seven, and later started voice lessons from Ms. Mary. Under Ms. Mary’s guidance, Zelda has performed on the piano and sang in various recitals, festivals, and competitions. She earned a Gold Cup in both piano and voice categories in the National Federation of Music Clubs Gold Cup Festival.
Zelda started playing the flute when she entered fifth grade and is currently a member of her junior high’s top band, the Wind Ensemble. Her training with Ms. Mary has given her an excellent foundation in music and she was able to pick up the flute relatively quickly. She has performed in the CISD Honor Band and recently successfully auditioned for Regional Band. Zelda obtained a Superior Plus rating for flute at this year’s Gold Cup Festival and performed at the Gold Cup Honors Recital.
With recommendation from Ms. Mary, Zelda was selected for the Honors Junior Band in the Honors Performance Series and performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York in June. She also performed for Lady Jeanne Galway at a master class conducted by renowned flutists Sir James Galway and Lady Galway in Houston in October.
Zelda hopes to continue to improve her skills in piano and flute, and further develop as a well-rounded musician.
Congrats, Zelda!

Our second student of the week is Will Brown! 🎉
Will Brown has been playing the piano for over 6 years and this past year started taking lessons with Mrs. Mary. During that short time, under her guidance, he has advanced his craft greatly. Will received a superior plus rating in the spring 2018 gold cup festival and was invited to perform at the state convention. Will recently competed in the fall 2019 Sonatina/sonata competition. At this event, Will was rated a personal best- superior with high honors and received a gold medal. In his spare time, Will enjoys drawing, reading, playing basketball and baseball, and hanging out with his little brother John who also studies at Loy Performing Arts.
Congrats Will!
