Bob Inzer: The performing arts center — too valuable to lose The need for a performing arts center came from the community, through the cultural plan more than 10 years ago. A study, initiated by city government, was endorsed by county government.
Although the vote by Sales Tax Committee is a disappointing development and points to a real loss for our community, we will continue to plan for the future. The Board of Directors for The Florida Center will re-evaluate strategies and goals based on all that we have learned to this date. Last night the Sales Tax Committee met and had a presentation from County staff, detailing the projects they recommend for funding from the Sales Tax extension. The Florida Center for the Performing Arts and Education was not on their list? Even though it is the single most influential project when it comes to economic development for the County. Go the County's website for contact information about the Sales Tax Committee.
At their meeting today, the County Commission approved a new way to conduct a cultural plan for our community. Let's keep the Florida Center for the Performing Arts & Education on the radar screen. Let me know what you think!

On Sunday, the Democrat ran a front page article about City and County projects they wouldl ike to see funded by the extension of the Blueprint Sales Tax. And, there was no mention of the Florida Center for the Perfroming Arts Center. Why not? Let our elected officials know that citizens want a Performing Arts Center!
City and county lay groundwork for extending Blueprint penny sales tax Leon County's sales tax branded as Blueprint 2000 has changed Tallahassee's landscape. Now, Tallahassee and county leaders are finalizing the projects they'll propose for an extension of that sales tax.
