Recently, students had the opportunity to visit FAAST, the Florida Alliance for Assistance Services & Technology, a program designed to provide assistive technology to Floridians with disabilities and their loved ones by offering a range of activities and training.

Assistive technology is any item, equipment, or product that maintains or improves an individual’s cognition, communication, hearing, or mobility -- such as wheelchairs, communication boards, screen readers, and more. Knowledge on assistive technology is essential for future special education teacher due to how it enhances the lives of their students.

Earlier this week, juniors in the BS/MS Social Science Education program visited Mission San Luis as part of their teaching historic sites unit in Dr. Chantelle Grace's "Teaching History" course. Students were able to learn more about the purpose of the mission, view artifacts from the time period, and explore the reconstructed mission site. Thank you for hosting our students !

Happy Valentine's Day, 'Noles! 💌 All month long, we will be bringing you informative content to encourage you to love yourself and those around you.💞 First up, our own Dr. Myriam Rudaz has given us some tips on how to practice self compassion.

Myriam Rudaz, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and mind-body therapist exploring the impact of mindfulness, self-compassion, and spirituality on stress reduction, mental health, and well-being. Her research within the Department of Human Development and Family Science focuses in part on understanding how contemplative practices contribute to positive health outcomes, promoting resilience, and fostering a healthier, happier life.
