Here is another SOTM coming your way- Congratulations to the FCSAA Student Government Division Student of the Month for January... Faith Macomber of Lake-Sumter State College! Faith was nominated by her advisor, Jennifer Unterbrnk.

Here is what Jennifer told us about Faith: "Faith has truly embraced the virtual SGA world. She has gone above and beyond to find tools for the board members to stay engaged and communicate. SGA decided collectively to not only work not only as each specific campus but also as a collective LSSC student body. Faith has been the one who has kept all of this going. Her dedication to SGA has been the reason why SGA has been successful!

Faith has been an amazing resource for me. In these unprecedented times, the commitment she has shown to SGA and Student Life is one that I never expected nor could have asked for. Faith’s growth has completely amazed me. She was a very timid student when we first met and was not one to state her opinion. She is now the person I recommend to fellow co-workers when they ask for students to be apart of committees or attend events. Faith is the student that embodies LSSC and a wonderful spokesperson for her students."

Congratulations Region 3 Coordinator- Kaylee Williams!

Another Student of the Month coming your way! Take a look at our FCSAA Student Government Division Student of the Month, Kaylee Williams of Lake-Sumter State College! Kaylee was nominated by her advisor, Lori Lemoine.

Here is why Lori nominated Kaylee for this award: "Kaylee joined the FCSSGA team in the Spring Semester of 2020 and ran for the office of Region 3 Coordinator for 2020-2021. She attends Lake Sumter State College, Leesburg Campus where she is currently serving as the SGA President. Her dedication to serving students and her drive to achieve her goals has helped to create a seamless transition to the new virtual environment for the Region 3 colleges.

Kaylee is serving as the Region 3 Coordinator for the 2020-2021 school year and has hit the ground running. Over the summer she attended the Executive Board training sessions and has engaged to serve the students across Florida. Embracing a virtual environment she has worked to recruit new officers; is working with those officers to design a Region Community service project to encourage FCSSGA Region 3 members to help tutor students in K-12 in their local community; she is planning the Region 3 Virtual Retreat and has created an information session for new students to learn more about FCSSGA prior to the President's Assembly and Region Retreat. She truly embodies the FCSSGA motto for 2020-2021 "Adapt- Lead- Succeed" and is an excellent candidate for the FCSSGA Student of the Month."

The Florida College System Student Government Association has 3 spots left on the Region 3 Board and has began their virtual meetings & workshops for the 20-21 year. Email your Region 3 Coordinator, Kaylee Williams at [email protected] for more information and remember to register to vote by July 20th for the Florida Primary.

The 2020-2021 FCSSGA State Executive Board would like to remind everyone that Monday, July 20, 2020 is the deadline to register to vote in the August 18, 2020 Florida Primary. Florida residents may register online to vote by visiting www.registertovoteflorida.gov/. The next important deadline is October 5, 2020, and that is the last day to register to vote in the November 3, 2020 General Election.

This message our SGA at Daytona State College wanted to communicate to the students applies to all of us across the Florida College System. We are naturally competitive as leaders, but when we come together as a whole to compete against adversity such as COVID-19 there is nothing that can stop us from succeeding. Address every new challenge one at a time and step by step you will make progress against the entirety of the situation.

I urge you all to stay engaged and involved. If you haven't already, apply to one of the open positions on State Executive Board for next year. FCSSGA needs strong leaders that participate in civic engagement and lead from the front, especially in situations requiring so many unprecedented changes.Stay strong, stay resilient, and stay sanitized.

Students of Daytona State College:

As you all are aware, Covid-19 is requiring us to make many changes in our daily routines, from hygiene to social interactions. Thoroughly washing our hands and using hand sanitizer is the mantra for every day. We are all adjusting to the new normal of avoiding large gatherings and practicing social distancing. At DSC, we have transitioned to online instruction modalities as much as possible. Our lives have been altered in ways we could have never predicted.

During these stressful and uncertain times, remember the goals you set for yourselves when you enrolled at Daytona State. For me, that was obtaining my Baccalaureate of Science in Information Technology. Spring 2020 is a milestone for me, as it marks the final semester in my four-year degree and the culmination of efforts to play leadership roles in Daytona State College and the Florida College System Student Government Associations. When faced with these uncertain times, I constantly remind myself of the goals that I have set for myself. This keeps me moving forward, one step at a time.

Good afternoon Florida College System Students! Unfortunately, the FCSSGA April Year End Conference has been canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However not all of the festivities are canceled. We are still giving out awards and holding elections in a remote format. More details are to come. With that being said, we are down to only 6 days to turn in election packets! Checkout out our social media as we count down the last 5 days with some memories from this year!

Region 3, this document would not have been possible without your discussion, debate and support! The students of FCSSGA have spoken, now let's go to Tallahassee and advocate for the nearly 800,000 students in the Florida College System.

You have spoken! Here is FCSSGA's stance on current legislation. This is what we will take to lawmakers in the coming days during our November Legislative Conference! Thank you to all the student leaders & campus advisors from around the state who have helped make this document possible!

Way to go Maylin Rodriguez of Daytona State College!

Happy Monday from the FCSAA! We're hoping your week is just as great and exciting as this post about one of our students. We are elated to say congratulations to Maylin Rodriguez, Daytona State College, for being awarded as the FCSAA Student Government Division Student of the Month for October! Maylin was nominated by her advisor, Lori Lemoine.

Here is why Lori thinks Maylin deserves this award: "Maylin attended the FCSSGA President's Assembly as the representative voice for Daytona State College students and embraced the FCSSGA mission, actively participating in the discussion of planks and researching bills for the legislative visits this past February. To continue to grow her leadership, she has now applied to serve the Region 3 board as secretary for FCSSGA on top of her service to the Daytona State SGA board as the Executive Secretary.

Maylin is always ready to step up and serve the students on campus. She assisted with the Club Thanksgiving event for her fellow students, helped plan and implement a "Cause for Paws" fundraiser for the local animal shelter, participated in Hunger and Homeless Awareness events and most recently volunteered to fill time slots to help out her fellow board members. This is Maylin's second year working with FCSSGA, and watching her work to build her confidence in public speaking and leadership skills is further evidence of how students grow when they are willing to take a step outside their comfort zone."

Again, congratulations to Maylin Rodriguez, our FCSSGA Student of the Month for October & thank you to Lori for nominating her for this recognition!

Region 3 had our Retreat at Daytona State College on Friday, October 18th! It was GREAT!
