Heroes Vs Villians For the Win!
As we start SEASON 9 TOMORROW 🥳🥳🥳, we are also saying the last of the goodbyes to our Fabulous ’22 Seniors, as the last of the crew left this weekend to start their University journeys. To allow me one last flashback, here are some of my favorite memories with my Seniors on our NYC trip this year. We had the BEST time!!
To my girls, DFS will forever be your 2nd home and I am always just a phone call or text away! (You know not to message me on Instagram though because you know I’ll probably get it a week later and the story you tagged me in will already be gone into the abyss!)
All jokes aside though, your dance fam is already looking forward to the holidays to see you again! Come back soon!
We know you are going to make the spaces and places where you are now better just because of who you are! Don’t ever doubt that YOU ARE LOVED and that YOU ARE MAGIC!
While you are in your new surroundings, meet new people, try new things, find out what makes you kinder, what opens you up and brings out the most generous and unafraid part of yourself, and go after those things with a boldness.
I cannot wait to hear all about it. I’m so excited for all of you and I love you all so so much. Big hugs from me to you.
Your other momma, fake auntie, mama coach…Mrs. Wendy ❤️❤️
Ayy Ayy Ayyyy…You know!
As everyone starts their first full week of school tomorrow, we wanted to take a moment to spotlight some of our summer highlights from some of our Senior level dancers!
All of these dancers completed Dance Fusion intensives and then had amazing opportunities around the United States to further their training.
From North Carolina to Miami to Atlanta to New York to Los Angeles to right here in our own backyard, these dancers stepped outside their comfort zone and represented Dance Fusion and Tallahassee so well. We are so proud of them taking the opportunity to broaden their horizons and to allow themselves to be challenged in brand new ways.
Between these few dancers, DFS was represented at The Alvin Ailey School Summer Intensive, The Shannon Mather Trans4m Intensive, The Camp with The MSA agency, Molly Long with Project 21, The American Dance Festival, The Florida State University Dance Department, and the Tallahassee Ballet.
These dancers trained with acclaimed professionals such as Mark Meismer, Molly Long, Shannon Mather, Travis Wall, Lauren Anderson, Azuki, Tessandra Chavez, Kiersten Russel, Millicent Johnnie, Nicole Smith, Lacey Schwimmer, Erica Marr, Madi Hicks and more! We are so proud of all our dancers!!
Ohhhh Hey! These talented ladies just placed first at UDA camp and we are so proud! Congrats to the Coaching Staff and to the lovely FSU Captains ❤️💛and Dance Fusion Staff ❤️🖤 on this wonderful routine and for the entire team executing it beautifully like only the FSU Golden Girls can! So fun!!
Wow! Only TWO Summer Intensives left before Fall Session begins!

Flash back Friday….
May I introduce your 2022 Natty Champs!!
What a Week!
This was our first year in a multi-room Nationals and the talent at Nexstar National Talent Competition was insane. The amount of dancers everywhere and trying to figure out how placements were going was overwhelming at times, but it was so inspiring seeing the talent from all over and knowing that we made it to the Big Show with every level DFS brought to compete right beside them!
Nationals is optional for our studio. We decided a long time ago that we did not want to cut into the company kids summer by continuing to practice after recitals, so we go into it knowing that we will start rusty, but if we lock in, we have done the work prior to where we can freshen it up and still be competitive.
Almost two months after we have last done these dances, two days before we left for nationals, we got each group together. Every dance practiced no more than two hours total with the exception of one younger group that practiced for a week prior. We had 8 girls learn dances they were never in prior to attempt to take some dances without teammates. Large groups were now quartets, etc so reblocking took focus, but they did great! Soooo proud!
We took 16 group dances and all but 3 placed in the top ten with 5 placing top 3!
We also took 14 duet/trios and all but 2 placed top 10 with us taking home 2- 2nd places, 2- 3rd places, 2- 4th places, 2-5th places, plus more 6-10!
Lastly we only had one line and they won 1st overall and again in the Big Show!🎉
Not having the full studio means lots of down time so this week brought a lottttt of studio family fun. We love seeing the dancers make memories with each other and hearing all about them!
On the Performance side, not taking the full group means there’s a lot of things that needs to be remembered such as new parts and new formations. We lost a dancer due to injury one night and another due to illness the morning of, but they were quick on their feet both to support and to adjust!
Some days we nailed it the first time and others it was nailed in the Big Show, but through it all, it was a fantastic experience for our first time at this level with a great group of dancers and their families.
They won a lot of scholarships and we received some really fun awards such as the spirit award, choreography awards, and the artistic excellence award, but most fun was seeing them own the stage and/or come back stronger than the previous performance being competitive in the sea of talent. We love these kids and We are so grateful every time we reflect on what we’ve built together. This was such a great way to end out season 8 and We are so appreciative to all of our dance families who made this week a special one.
To our studio fam and mama bear squad, you guys made this such a fun and rewarding week. Super proud of what all we accomplished together in such a short amount of time and We are definitely excited about season nine!
Love you all!!

Flashing back to last week when the Education Manager for Opening Nights at Florida State University made it possible for over 50 members of our DFS dance family to experience the excellence that is Dance Theater of Harlem.
It was an incredible evening of dance and we are so grateful to have had this opportunity. For so many of these dancers, they were able to see the beautiful representation of themselves played out on stage in pure excellence and artistry on stage.
It was a night to remember! Thank you so much to DTH and Opening Nights at FSU!!
We had a super fun and challenging weekend as we kicked off another amazing intensive with the one and only Mrs. Kelsey Nelson!
One thing we know will happen when is here, we leave tired and inspired! We love how everything is intentional from start to finish and how we absolutely leave as better dancers from when we started her class to the time we finish!
Mrs. Kelsey, THANK YOU for encouraging us and inspiring us to be our best and for reminding us how our attitude and our effort directly affects our progress! We are so grateful for you!!
May we never forget the sacrifice of so many who have fought for our country and the freedoms we have here. ❤️🤍💙
We cannot believe it’s already been two weeks since our Ahhhhh-mazing recital! We are missing seeing everyone on a daily basis, but we are still living off the memories from our big weekend! It was such a lovely recital weekend and that is all thanks to all of your wonderful dancers!
We absolutely loved seeing them on that stage and we hope they had a wonderful experience followed by special family time with you!

Flashback Friday Time!
Last week we had a week full of four nights of awards banquets and company showcases followed two days of five different recitals!! What a week!!
Show E was memorable as we retired routines from each level of our company followed by another year of an incredibly special Senior Send Off.
Some of these dances were started back in August and some were started in January, but it feels like we have had them and loved them for forever.
It was such a special year for our company across all levels as yes, they won a ridiculous amount of awards and scholarships at every competition, but more because of how close these teams became and the growth that each dancer had both physically and mentally. Due to these dancers putting in the work individually and as a team, the recognition given to them as we traveled to different cities were both welcomed and celebrated and allowed them to all end on top in their perspective realms clear across the levels.
It was emotional to see them dance the routines one last time and many dancers and audience members couldn’t hold back tears mid-dance.
We have watched this year’s group create beautiful memories on the stage, in the wings, during their team bonding moments created by the studio and on their own and it brings us no greater joy to know that the vision in our hearts and minds are being played out in real time in the lives of the families we care so much about.
What a truly special five months it has been. Thank you to those who continually trust our vision and more importantly our heart for your kids. We have been blessed with the best this year and we are grateful for all that we learned and accomplished together this season.
As we start our company tryouts this weekend, we hope to see everyone at our Midtown location for the company interest meeting THIS Saturday at 1PM or via zoom!
Season 8, The Gr8 Awakening, allowed for beautiful things to unfold and be recognized and we are looking forward to Season 9, the Season of Alignment, as we continue to stay on this exciting path of Onward and Upward!
This Throwback Thursday is is dedicated to our company members that celebrated their incredibly successful year with four nights of awards ceremonies and company showcases.
The theme of Season 8 was The Gr8 Awakening and it held true in every sense of the word. This season was both eye opening and amazing in all the ways!
Like any group that has had some success, and our DFS competition teams are going on years of extremely successful competition seasons, it is easy to fall into the mindset of where the privilege of being a part of something special can turn into feeling regular or normal and where things were once deemed as special can now slip into being deemed as expected and/or not enough.
There were growing pains in the beginning. There was a restructuring and a shedding that was necessary, but at first, it was hard nonetheless. As a Director you wonder how will the teams handle it, but wow what a difference was felt by all when you now have the right people in the right places on board.
When the negativity, people taking opportunities for granted or the half in Vs locked in people were no longer a part of the equation, we watched the remaining take off, and take off they did. We were floored by the teamwork, positivity, and growth had since January both as teammates and in their accolades at competitions. It was truly by no coincidence.
There were reminders to rise to what was expected of them both on and off the floor and encouraging them to take advantage of the special opportunities for friendships to grow. They were encouraged in the realness that they will never get this specific time with these specific people again so create memories, stay humble, be thankful, and work like you’re on mission.
Well they grew even closer as family before my eyes all while proving they were true competitors at every convention and competition they attended. What a year.
These four nights were full of well deserved recognition, fun performances, and fun with families. Thank you all for a great week of loving on your babies! We could not have ended on a better note and we are so thankful for your dancers meeting and exceeding our expectations this 2022 competition season!
Closing out today with another Senior Sunday tribute and this time…it’s flashback time!
Enjoy going back in time with these beginning stages of where it all began! Oh how we love a good flashback and especially when it’s of our sweet dancers that we love!!
