Are you ready to see a GORGEOUS cesarean birth?!?!

This mama did all the things to try and turn her breech baby, but he didn’t want to budge. They made an informed & empowered choice to schedule a cesarean for the birth of their first baby.

Cesarean birth is HARDCORE 🥴 anyone who delivers a baby via major abdominal surgery is a badass.

Where are all my cesarean birth mamas at?? (👋🏼 me…I’m one!)

Today is and so I’ll share a bit of my story with mg firstborn.

I spontaneously went into labor at 30 weeks and 4 days. I was in denial for many hours (young and thinking “but it’s not time yet” and “well I don’t have ALL the symptoms of labor…”) About 3-4 hours into my “something isn’t quit right” feeling I phoned L&D and they told me to lay on my left side and drink some water and see if things settle down in an hour. After about 10 minutes of that I said - nope, I need to go in! Woke husband up to drive me to L&D. Upon arrival I was 5 cm dilated! I was in absolute shock! They tried to stop my labor - terbutaline, put me in trendelenberg so my water wouldn’t break, gave magnesium and steroids and allll the drugs - so many drugs I couldn’t think or see straight. Nothing was stopping my labor and a few hours later I delivered my little 4 lb 1 oz baby boy Ethan. I remember touching his little head as he laid down by my feet before going off to the nicu. He was born direct OP (sunny side up) with TWO nuchal hands up by his cheeks.

He had a rough childhood with RSV, asthma, lots of hospitalizations and therapy but was literally the most happy and cheerful guy you’ve ever met!

And today he is a 23 year old young man who just graduated from a university with a bachelors in software engineering. You’d never know he was a preemie. ♥️

This little one sure made his parents wait, his mama is almost 42 weeks! 🥴

Good thing babies are so darn cute! 😉

Doula Sarah wants to tell y’all something…

Sometimes I forget how much of a difference us doulas can make; yes, me, a seasoned doula after supporting almost 700 births. Sometimes the more I know and the longer I do this work I start to think I really know nothing and I’m not very helpful.

Last night I attended a birth where the mom was stalled out at 6/7 cm for 6 hours. Baby was in a funky position…OP plus acynclitic plus hyperflexed head. This was this moms 2nd baby and her water had broken on its own many hours prior. It is not “normal” to be stalled out at this dilation for a multip. We had a lot going against us. I tried all the positions I thought would work best and within 1-1/2 hours of my circuit she delivered her sweet baby. 🥰

I know the birth universe isn’t up to me - I don’t have control whether babies turn or move but sometimes my doula magic DOES work! And when it does, it makes me so, so happy ☺️

This mom got her unmedicated, birth center, water birth and that fills my heart ♥️♥️♥️

If you are a doula or birth worker….you ARE helpful and important and make a difference. Don’t ever forget that!

GUESS WHAT?!?!

I have an exciting announcement coming next week! 🤗🤗🤗

Any guesses as to what it could be??

10/16/2022

Last night as I drove towards Seattle at midnight I was just overwhelmed with joy and excitement at the thought of supporting a new family through labor & birth as they welcome their sweet baby into the world. I am so blessed to be able to do this work. I absolutely love it.

Yes, it’s hard.
Yes, it’s draining.
Yes, it’s emotional.
Yes, it physically takes a toll.
Yes, it’s exhausting.

But, for all of the hard things there’s a million reasons why I love it.

Welcome baby #676

Just feeling very thankful I get to do this work ♥️
