Just want to say thank you to the awesome staff running the summer playground. My little guy had so much fun. He was so sad when I picked him up on the last day today. He didn't want to have to say bye. :( He really enjoyed playing there. Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a great program. See you next year. :)

Happy Parks & Recreation Professional Day!! Many of the Parks & Recreation Agencies in the Central New York area are reaching out today in honor of our beloved friend and colleague Tom White who passed away on July 1st. Tom worked for the City of Syracuse Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs for 33 years before retiring in 2016. His job was only a small part of what he contributed to Central New York and beyond. Tom was a leader in the field, passionate for his work in advocating opportunities for recreation and dedicated his life to service on the behalf of others.
The word “no” was not in Tom’s vocabulary. He was heavily involved in our local Central New York Recreation & Parks Society as well as New York State Recreation & Parks Society. He spent many years on both executive boards taking on six years as secretary of NYSRPS, two terms as President of CNYRPS, and 3-time co-chair for NYSRPS Annual Conference among other positions. He was a mentor to many and a friend to all. He was always reminding people to get involved and don’t forget to visit local parks wherever you may travel.
Thank you Tom, for your service to parks and recreation, to your community, to NYSRPS. We are better people because of you and by the impact you have had in so many lives. You will be greatly missed. Please celebrate Tom’s life with us today!! #BeLikeTom

[05/30/20]   We are sad to report that the Town of Onondaga has made the difficult decision to cancel all children's programs this summer. This was a very hard decision with many factors to consider. The largest being the health and safety of our participants and their families. We do plan on rolling out a virtual recreation center in the next couple of weeks so stay turned for some fun activities to do with your families and finding other ways to play while we can't be together this summer.

[05/28/20]   We kindly ask the public to refrain from using the playground equipment at our parks. We understand parks may be one of the only outlets for many of us at this time so we want to keep them open, however to ensure your family’s health, we have closed all playground equipment until further notice. Unfortunately, at this time, we are not taking any pavilion reservations either.

[03/30/20]   We would like to remind all residents that all of our Parks and Playgrounds are currently CLOSED. We do not open parks until May during a regular year, and this season is no exception. We do not have the resources or staffing to effectively clean and maintain equipment at this time so we ask residents to refrain from jumping over the locked fence. Thank you and be safe!

Fun for the whole family

Town of Onondaga Parks & Recreation

[03/19/20]   We have hit 1,000 followers! Thank you everyone!!!

[03/17/20]   Even though "New York will waive all fees, for state, local and county parks" that does not mean you should gather in groups or use playground equipment.

Getting outside will be an important part of staying active during this time when so many people are home, however, public playground equipment is not routinely cleaned/disinfected and you should still remain at least 6 feet away from anyone who is not in your immediate family.

So please do your best to stay active while observing proper safety precautions. We may be social distancing, but we still need to think and act like a community. We can and will make it through this!

[03/17/20]   TOWN OF ONONDAGA - TOWN HALL
Pursuant to Executive Orders Issued by Governor Andrew Cuomo resulting from the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

CLOSING NOTICE

Effective immediately, the physical facilities of the Town of Onondaga shall be closed until further notice. This closure extends to all physical facilities owned by the Town of Onondaga including the Town Hall, Parks and Recreation/Senior Center and the Town Highway Garage.
In addition, all Town-related public meetings shall be suspended until further notice.

STAFF WILL BE AVAILABLE BY PHONE.

[03/16/20]   Parents, Participants and Residents,

In the interest of preserving community health and to proactively deter the spread of COVID-19, all Town of Onondaga Recreation programs are cancelled until further notice.

We will notify participants of any changes as soon as information becomes available.

-Town of Onondaga Parks and Recreation Department

[03/13/20]   Parents, Participants and residents,
At this time, the Town of Onondaga Recreation Department has not cancelled any youth or adult programs. The only event cancelled thus far is the Sr. lunch party that was scheduled for Monday, March 16th.
We are continuing to monitor the situation and taking directives from State and County health officials and will update our Facebook and Website if there are any changes.
