Happy Friday! Here’s a vintage photo of the front of the school. It looks quite different now. Seeing the flagpole brings back a memory. In 1976, two older siblings of our classmates “liberated “ the flags one night after they were inadvertently left on the pole after school. I know the whereabouts of the California State flag - it was sent to Germany as a memento with a foreign exchange student. The author had nothing to do with this!
Does anyone remember buying ice creams after lunch from the little window behind the cafeteria, then we would head out to the playground to eat them?

Happy Friday! I’m sure everyone remembers our principal, Mr. John Bush. Let’s hear your stories about him! I’ll post mine below.

Did you get as a gift or buy something back in sixth grade that you still have? Books, records, etc? If so, please share a picture. For me, it was two cacti. My grandmother lived on Rutledge Way near Lincoln Center and would send me to Payless to get her things. On one such trip, Spring 1972, I believe, I bought two very small cacti (50 cents each plus tax) and took them home. After 50+ years, they have grown considerably. The little barrel cactus is blooming and has nice pink flowers.

Happy Friday! This is not a great photo, but you can clearly see Mr. Johnson and sitting across from him, Mrs. Brewer ( my fifth grade teacher).

If you were anything like me in 1971-72 you had your ear glued to your transistor radio (and the car radio) for your favorite tunes from KJOY or KSTN. Back in 71-72, much of what we listened to as Top 40 Radio has become Classic Rock! Makes me feel a little old! Please take a minute and list your favorite songs from Sixth Grade. List as many as you want! I will post mine separately.

Happy Friday! Do you remember the Colonial Heights sixth grade pool party at the Colonial Heights pool (which was directly adjacent to the southeast corner of the school)? Mr. Johnson joined us in the water.
