When I started work as a campus minister, I never gave much thought to funerals being a component of my ministry. Sure, a wedding here and there, but the idea of helping with a funeral of a student, or even a former student seemed a distant reality. Charles was a part of the core that I inherited when I started here. He helped my find my voice as a chaplain and is without doubt a major part of the foundation I’ve built my ministry upon. 4 years ago today our world was left a little duller, much less sassy, and lacking a counter tenor that would make even the angels cry. God bless you Charles Barraclough. You continue to be greatly missed.

Congrats to our own Sophie Fosmire!!!

Congratulations to our new Litchenburg Scholar, Sophie Fosmire! The Litchenberg Family Scholarship is awarded in a student’s freshman year and provides up to three years of support. Al Litchenburg earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from OSU and had an extraordinarily distinguished career at American Fidelity, becoming a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, the highest honor in his profession. Thanks to Al and Jere Litchenburg for your generosity and for being such great friends of the department!

Sophie is a freshman math major in the pre-med concentration, and she hopes to become a doctor of optometry. In her first year at OSU, Sophie is a member of the President's Leadership Council and a Freshman Research Scholar. For her research project, Sophie is working with our Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Lisa Mantini, constructing and classifying symmetric colorings found within the polyhedra through the use of origami. Congratulations on your great start at OSU, Sophie!

Almighty God, you have created us out of the dust of the
earth: Grant that these ashes may be to us a sign of our
mortality and penitence, that we may remember that it is
only by your gracious gift that we are given everlasting life;
through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

The ashes are imposed with the following words:

Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.

Let’s come together to bless this life-changing ministry of mercy and justice with a remarkable $100,000 donation by doubling every contribution. Visit epiok.org/bishops-appeal to dontate today!

When we prayerfully considered how best to use the Bishop’s Appeal this year, and what faith-based organizations in Oklahoma (Episcopalian or not) were sacrificially serving those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, one stood above the rest. Historic Vernon A.M.E. Church in Tulsa has served over 190,000 meals in their community since March 2020 through meals and bags of groceries.

Roughly half of the funds will help upgrade their kitchen, where the meals are prepared. The other half will help Rev. Dr. Turner and the congregation build a prayer wall for those who visit the church to learn about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre (Historic Vernon A.M.E. Church is the only black-owned building that remains from that tragic day).

This morning I've been working on our alumni list. One of our amazing alums offered to set up a group to help with the process. I gladly accepted. As the notifications have been rolling in with kind words and contact information I am overwhelmed with gratitude for this work and this community. While it can be easy to focus on the frustrations and limitations of life during this pandemic, I am reminded that our community of faith is so much more than those I can see in person at any given moment. It transcends zip codes, graduation years, and even life itself. I am so grateful and blessed. Thank you Melissa Stoner!!!

Today we remember with deep affection and tangible sadness our dear friend Charles, gone too early. A fixture of our community when I started here Charles' kindness, sass, and incredible talent profoundly shaped our community, not to mention my ministry. Blessings upon him, his family and friends, and the countless people blessed by his presence. We miss you Charles.

you to be the source of all truth; through Jesus Christ our
