This chicken wing recipe is SO easy and SOOOO delicious! They are crispy, easy and finger lickin' good and one of my family's FAVORITE dinners. I love how it has simple ingredients I always have on hand. Feel free to share!

Healthy Baked Chicken Wings
6 TBS olive oil
6 cloves of minced garlic
4 tsp chili powder (I'm kinda a wimp, so I half this)
2 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
20-ish chicken wings

Preheat the oven to 375

In a gallon sized ziplock bag, combine olive oil, chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Seal and moosh bag until spices are mixed into the oil. Add the chicken wings. Reseal and shake to coat. Arrange on baking sheet and cook for 1 hour or until crisp and heated through.

TIP: I like to mix the oil and spices and add the frozen wings and let them thaw and marinate all day. Then I arrange them on a pan and bake. MMM-MMM!!

ANOTHER TIP: If you're going to be busy, arrange them on the pan and set your oven on time bake and come home to the best chicken wings EVER!

Serve with some sautéd or steamed veggies and viola! You're family will be singing your praises for days

I love finding natural ways to clean things and I love being thrifty too! This technique uses vinegar and baking soda, both cheap, natural and things I have on hand. Use HOT HOT HOT water and dry your towels completely for best results. My washer has been working hard today getting all my towels odor-free! If you like this tip, feel free to share.

Truthful moment: The night before I started 21 Day Fix I texted my coach and was freaking out! I was so afraid to start something new, a lifestyle that I wasn't sure I could maintain. I was SCARED of FAILING. I didn't want to start something that I couldn't sustain; couldn't maintain. I didn't want to FAIL; I wasn't the type of person who failed. But you know what I didn't realize....?

I was already failing.

I was failing my family and myself by not taking care of my body and my mind and not being able to be there for them because I was so depressed and so unhealthy.

But because of my coach Stacy Richins Wilson I was able to have the support and confidence to start down a healthy path of balanced nutrition, exercise and personal development. And here I am, almost two years later, still exercising from home, by myself, in my pjs (lol!) and trying my darnedest to eat the right foods in a balanced way.

How am I still at it? How have I not quit?

It's because I'm a coach. It's because I became a leader to pay it forward. I decided to be the support that SO MANY NEED when they are starting something new. Sure, I love saving 25% on my Shakeology and programs. Sure, I love being able to supplement my income from home. Yes, I absolutely love being the support others need to reach their goals. And at the end of the day I love taking care of myself, discovering myself again and being the best me I can. Being consistent it more important than anything else. Am I perfect? Real Talk: Do any of my mom friends struggle with depression? I did...still do to some degree. It's real. It's not in your head. You feel alone. Empty. Hopeless. Tired. The things you should love and care about (like your kids and family) actually leave you feeling guilty (that you don't love them as much as you should/could) and sometimes you even feel anger and possibly resentment towards them.

I tried multiple types of medications over the last 15 years of my life which helped...a little... but every time I had a baby it got worse and worse. It was after baby #4 that I hit an all time low. I could still put on my mask and do the bare essentials, but just doing that would leave me exhausted and I'd need days to recover after I would work.

So how did I get from there to where I am now-completely off medications and happier than ever?

I credit a HUGE part of my turn around to nutrition. I loved this quote from this article:

"Nutrition and “super foods” play a very important role in mental health. There are many foods that naturally balance one’s levels of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. Consequently, there are also many synthetic ingredients and chemicals added to our food supply that negatively affect our mood, brain function and cognitive function."

Since I started incorporating "super foods" into my daily diet I have been able to replace my antidepressant meds and vitamin supplements. I have energy. I have my life back. I don't have to pretend to be happy. And that feels pretty good.

Are there days where that dark side still tries to push through? You bet. But that darkness no longer runs my life. I am able to shove it aside, get exercising and make good choices with food so I can be the best me.

Food can literally heal our body. I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but if it works for one person, then I feel I must keep sharing....because I've found something that's totally changed me; something that works; something that's real, not fake or processed in a factory, but grown, made for our bodies from the earth.

FOUR TIPS to avoid the afternoon slump which may (or may not) result in a sugar fix so you stay on track.

1. Watch for a trend. Does this happen at the same time every day?

2. What are you eating 1-2 hours before this happens? Maybe your blood sugar spikes too much and then drops you leaving your body thinking it’s dying.

3. If your crash is predictable then plan ahead and eat a little snack before you tank. Even a few almonds and/or an apple might help you stabilize.

4. Have a big drink of water! If possible add a splash of lemon juice to it. Wake up your brain!

The Best Response Ever to A Hate Comment

"The world needs more women who will rock their bodies exactly as God made them." Couldn't agree more! Which is why I'm letting my gray hairs (aka my celestial hairs) show with pride! I'm embracing my crows feet because it means I'm happy and smile! I love my fair, white, princess skin.

My body isn't perfect, but it is so incredible. It's given my 4 kids and works hard everyday and I'm grateful for it and cherish it.

If water is hard for you try infusing it! There's lots of benefits to adding a splash of natural flavor to you water.

Do you know how much WATER (water only!) you should aim to drink in a day? Take your weight in pounds, divide by half and that's how many ounces you should drink daily. So if you weigh 180, shoot for 90 ounces every DAY of water-more if it's hot or you've been playing outside.

An open, honest discussion....

Been thinking a lot lately about failure and sometimes if I let the negative self-talk take the reins I feel like I'm failing in so many areas of my life, especially with being consistent.

So it got me thinking, what is success really?

Can I share the epiphany I recently had?

Success is what we DEFINE it as.

So because of this thought I recently made a little list of things I do and what would make me "successful" at them. And here's the kicker-I only listed things I had CONTROL over.

Here's that shining ray that hit me-Success does not depend on others actions or thoughts about me.

Success is my responsibility and within my ability to achieve based on how I define it.

So I sat down and wrote down a few things I CAN DO in my personal life, my family, my marriage, my home, my health, my church calling and my business that will mean I'm succeeding.

I'm not trying to be Mother of the Year. I just want to go to bed each night without the mind chatter of my daily failures keeping me up at night.

➡️ Can I challenge you to take a moment and define success? And give you some advice? Aim low! 😂 I'm serious though. If you feel like your failing you may have one or both of these things going on:

1: You may be expecting too much of yourself. Seasons of motherhood change and what we used to be capable of at one point we no longer can keep up with. Can you believe I actually used to be able to wash, dry AND put away all the laundry in one day? Now I just shoot for having clean clothes! Success for me has now been redefined. AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! It just is.

2. You may be depending on others actions or their thoughts about you to mean you are successful. Compliments are great. They make you feel good. They validate that you are doing something right. But what about the negative feedback others give (or even you give yourself)? When you define your success on what is in your power to control then no positive or negative reaction can take your feeling of accomplishment away from you.

If you're still reading this-thanks! I know it was a little deep, but I know many women and mothers struggle with this mindset and wanted to tell you, you're not alone. 💗

Today, set some realistic expectations and be consistent at them. You are more powerful and capable than you can even imagine!

HALF of your plate at dinner should be veggies! Veggies don't have to be boring. With the right spices they are quite delicious!

Zucchini Noodles (Zoodles)
Tomatoes and fresh basil
Roasted Brussel sprouts with balsamic vinegar

Cauliflower and cumin
Broccoli and parmesan
Fresh Cucumbers in Apple Cider vinegar with pepper

Being a mom can be so anti-climactic. 😂 I get the dishes done, or an entire load of laundry put away and it's kinda funny the feeling of accomplishment I get! But I know there's a little minion who's going to change her clothes 4 times in a day, or there's another meal to be made that's going to mess it all up again. It's kinda hard to fist-bump yourself over accomplishing something you're just going to have to do all over again. 😒

Which is why I LOVE working out!

It's one thing I can ROCK in my day.

It's one thing I can do that will be done ALL DAY!

It's one thing I can do that makes me feel like I can do anything!

It's one thing I can do FOR ME!

Sometimes it's hard to push play. I'm not going to pretend to be some awesome wonder-woman workouter. I'll put it off. Make excuses. Pretend I'm good and don't need it. But I KNOW that once I'm done I'll feel so dag-gum proud of myself that it get's me started.

When you first wake up in the morning drink 8 ounces of water. This will wake up your brain, organs and metabolism and we all want that burning as long as possible!

Some people don't like the taste of water in the morning, but I promise you'll get used to it if you keep it up!

I love a great thrift-store find! Jenny is in LOVE with hedgehogs right now and when I saw this sequined, PINK, hedgehog shirt in her size I knew it was meant to be! She's now outfitted in her hedgehog shirt, skirt, jewels of course, crown and if you look close you can see her pink hedgehog, Miss Prickles, in her pocket. Oh Jenny, don't grow up! It's been a long time since I busted out my sewing machine, so today we made skirts. Michael even helped with the straight simple stitching!

I LOVE how they turned out! Jenny is totally in to hedgehogs right now and I found this woodland material in my stash and didn't need a thing to make it-free project! I love cheap crafting! This pattern is so cool because it has shorts underneath and I'd say it's great for a beginner too!

We made chore assignments right at the beginning of summer, but yesterday had to set some time deadlines on when people can wake up, when breakfast is over and when morning chores need to be done.

Now the kids have to be up by 8, done eating by 9, chores done by 10. Not completely unreasonable, right?! We'll see how day 1 goes.

I do.

So I love finding ways to get more nutrition into my kids diet. Let me share with you my latest win.

One of the things my kids will not do is chunks in their food. Which makes getting healthy food in them a little challenging. But not impossible!

Let me tell you about my latest favorite Healthy Mom hack! I call it my "Protein Blend". It's something you can easily mix in to your pancakes, waffles, breads and even smoothies that adds a load of protein and fiber to what you're eating. And the best part-it's EASY!

Here's what you do:

First get yourself a little coffee grinder. Nothing fancy-unless you want to!-mine was $15 at Walmart.

Next gather 1 cup (pre-ground) of at least 3 (or all) of these ingredients:

Sesame seeds
Chia seeds
H**p hearts
Flax seeds
Raw Sunflower seeds
Avocado seeds/pits (yes, you can eat them!)
Raw pumpkin seeds

Grind in your coffee grinder and mix it all together evenly in a bowl. (I had to grind mine in little batches because I bought a small grinder, but this makes a lot and lasts awhile, so while it took a little longer it didn't seem worth it to buy the jumbo-tron grinder.)

When you're done grinding and mixing put your mix in a freezer-safe ziplock bag and store in the freezer.

Here's how you use it. For every 1 cup of whole wheat flour in your recipe add 1 TBS Protein Blend. You can add more, but if your kids are fussy you might try a small amount to start and see how it goes down. If successful, pat your Healthy Mom self on the back and add a little more next time.

I also add this to my bread and it's AMAZING! If you want my bread recipe, I'd be happy to share, just let me know in the comments.

I've tried this with Pan Moates (aka German Pancakes, Eggs in the Oven-it's fascinating how many names there is for this!) and my kids love the flavor and don't know what I did to make it taste so good. I'm pretty sure it's the "extra cinnamon" I put in. 😉

When I see this picture of myself from 3 years ago I honestly don't know what to think. As you can see I'm smiling in the "before" picture, but what you can't see is that I'm a mess inside.

To tell you the truth I have very few pictures of myself from this time. Which is sad. Sad for me. Sad for my kids.

I struggled with depression, despite being on antidepressants for 10 years. 😢

I struggled with my weight-I was heavier than when I delivered my 4th baby. 😞

I struggled with feeling confident-I didn't like the way I looked and I did NOT like buying bigger sizes. 🙈

I struggled with eating-I had no mastery of self and truly no concept of how to eat better.🤷🏻‍♀️

I struggled with knowing what to do for exercise-I didn't love going to the gym and I hardly knew what would be effective once I got there. 🤔

I struggled with fatigue-bone deep, soul deep fatigue and weariness. I just was so tired. 🙁

Just goes to show you....people may appear happy and to have it all together, but inside they are crying out for answers.
