IMPORTANT UDPATE. What is NECHE and why is it important to you as a student?

NECHE stands for New England Commission of Higher Education. It is our accrediting body that certifies the College to the federal government and allows us to offer Title IV grants and loans. A few weeks ago, you received an email from the Division of Academic Affairs with a copy of the Springfield College Institutional Self-Study document that is being prepared for our decennial review. We would like to meet with you and tell you more and have you provide input and feedback on our self-study!

We are hosting Zoom information for interested students to join us for a question and answer period about this process and our self-study document. We have scheduled two different open forums for regional and online students. Listed below are the two dates for the Open Forums: Saturday, May 2nd – noon to 1:00 p.m.(EST); Sunday, May 3rd – 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.(EST). Please check your emails for the links.

If you cannot attend one of the sessions and you have specific questions or feedback on the self-study document, we have set up a survey that you can use to provide your feedback, which can be found in your email.

The latest from Springfield College President Mary-Beth Cooper.

Read the latest message from #Springfield College President Mary-Beth Cooper:

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

As we near the end of our first day of online teaching classes, I want to thank everyone who helped us get through this transition so smoothly. I hope everyone had a good experience today and I’m confident we all will soon become a little more comfortable with our new normal.

The transition to online learning in the middle of a semester was a challenge and our faculty and staff have proven in these past few weeks that they are ready, and we know our students are too.

Our focus has always been, and will continue to be, on developing our students into leaders--the heart of our Humanics philosophy. Our faculty have been hard at work preparing their courses for online delivery, working with the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship, and our academic technologists, and instructional designers to take our dynamic curriculum into a new modality. That is collaboration at its best. Excellent teaching skills and disciplinary expertise will come alive virtually, and our students will adapt to this new environment. While we did not anticipate this to be the way we finished the spring semester, we will all become stronger for it, learning how to lead in the most challenging of times.

Martin Luther King, Jr. and Springfield College

Somehow we must know and we must continue to believe, that the arc of the moral universe is long but extends towards justice. And so I still have faith in the future, and I still have faith in America, and I still believe that we can and will solve these haunting problems. I believe this because I know that Carlyle is right, “No lie can live forever.”

Excerpt from the commencement address Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave on Sunday, June 14, 1964 at Springfield College.
