Fathers, Daughters Dancing Night Away

The annual Girl Scouts Father Daughter Dance will take place on April 23 in the commons from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. “Girl Scouts is a unity that I like being able to pass down to younger girls,” senior Ali x Fullerton said. “The dance allows the girls to get involved in the event planning board.” This year the event theme is “Enchanted Woods” and about 1,200 people will attend including Girl Scouts from grades kindergarten to 12th grade. Changing Education Expectations

Next year, blended courses will be offered by the district at the high school level. Blended classes are a mixture of the traditional face-to-face instruction combined with online lectures. Blended classes will give students a new experience in learning, and benefit our education system because it offers a new way to collect student intel and gives students a sense of individuality. Seniors Save Lives

The district now requires seniors to learn about CPR before graduation, in accordance with Texas House Bill 897. Throughout the year, all seniors will learn CPR during Tiger Den. The course, developed by the American Heart Association, teaches students how to react in the case of a cardiac arrest emergency and includes hands-on practice. This measure was a long time coming and will give generations of students the ability to save lives. [ 262 more words. ]

“Daredevil,” “Supergirl,” “Agents of Shield,” “Flash,” “Jessica Jones” and “Gotham,” the list goes on and on for the number of superhero comics turned into TV shows. Some look at these shows with a mistrusting eye based on either a bad past experience, or have adopted the closed-minded thought process that comics should be kept in their plastic sleeves. How do You Measure a Year: 75,600 Minutes

A new Texas state policy, House Bill 2610, was passed by the 84th Texas Legislature and will go into effect in Texas public schools on the first day of the 2016-2017 school year. Under the legislation, Texas schools needing a minimum of 180 days, will instead need a minimum of 75,600 school minutes. According to assistant principal Ethan Barton, the biggest impact this legislation will have are on days when schools will need to cancel classes for the day because emergencies or severe weather. On Feb. 13, the Texas Art Education Association VASE, or Visual Arts Scholastic Event, will be held at the school. VASE is an annual art competition where students enter pieces of their artwork for critique, and the chance to move forward to the state competition. Art teacher Mike Hall is the director of VASE.
