📣 Gratitude is a powerful feeling! 📣

Research shows that people who are more grateful also tend to have higher self-esteem. When you pay attention to the ways other people are good to you or things you have accomplished, you develop a stronger sense of your own value.

Start making gratitude a habit for you and your child today! Think about one thing you're grateful for and write it down now.

Huntington does a great job of tailoring a learning plan to each student’s needs. My son has only been attending tutoring for a few weeks and I already see improvements!" - Sara M.

Studying effectively can be a challenge for children with ADHD.

How can you help your child have their best chance of success on tests? Start by focusing on building study skills. The way your child does this in elementary school vs. high school will look very different, of course, but your child can embrace a few good habits:

📙 Lay out a study plan for each subject/class with daily checklists for the week(s) leading up to the test.

📗 Space out studying to avoid cramming.

📙 Organize a study space that is free from distractions.

📗 Build stamina by breaking work sessions into short 10- or 15-minute periods with five-minute breaks in between.

Since it's almost report card season, let's do a on how all those A, B, C's often don't feel as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Some schools separate the academic year into three terms (Sept-Dec, Dec-Mar, Mar-June) and at the end of each term, students will get a report card. Other schools may do their report cards quarterly or just 2x a year.

Between those report cards, schools may also issue progress reports to track a student's performance.

So, why do schools do so much reporting?! Well, report cards and progress reports allow students and their parents to see if school performance is slipping and if intervention is required to bring up grades.

Give us a call at 1-800-CAN-LEARN or visit http://bit.ly/3TNRq6r to learn how we can help students strengthen skills in certain areas, like reading, math or science.

Many students need individualized help from time to time, but for certain students, that help might be more specific and defined by an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

An IEP is a written document that the school’s special education team creates for each child who receives any special education and related services from the school.

We've put together a blog post covering the steps that happen before and after an IEP is developed. Read the full post here: https://bit.ly/3G9hqWA

Are you ready for one of the first big milestones of the school year?

That's right, we're talking about parent-teacher conferences. 🏫

Parents should use conferences as an opportunity to reflect with their child on how things are going so far.

The parent-teacher conference is intended to be a productive, positive conversation about your child’s progress this school year, strengths and weaknesses. 🗨️

You’ll make the most of this important conversation by preparing ahead of time.

Often, teachers expect that they will share as much detail as possible about their students’ progress and any areas of concern and then give parents the floor to ask any questions. Jot down a few questions ahead of time so you’re ready!

For a list of questions you can ask and more tips about how you can prepare for upcoming parent-teacher conferences, read our latest blog post: https://bit.ly/3EVJHPV

We've all heard the saying "breakfast is the most important meal of the day," but did you know eating breakfast impacts school performance? 🍳🥞

Studies show that children who eat a complete breakfast work faster, make fewer mistakes in math problems and perform better on vocabulary tests than those who ate only a partial breakfast.

Children who eat breakfast also show improved concentration, alertness, comprehension, memory and learning.

We know how busy school mornings can be, but making time for breakfast will help create a successful school year. Have any go-to weekday breakfast foods your kids love? Share them in the comments.
