Yet another reason we do what we do - helping families make the connection between good food and good health.

Kale Is One of the Dirtiest Vegetables, According to the EWG's 2019 "Dirty Dozen" List If you're trying to eat healthy but save money, a good rule of thumb has been to splurge only on organic produce for fruits and veggies that notoriously

The queen caught snacking on purple kale from the garden.

She loves her greens! Lately it’s been Bok Choi, arugula, and parsleys (curly and flat).

Leafy Greens are so healthy chock full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Be sure to take them with a bit of vitamin c containing foods to maximize the absorption of what they contain, like iron for good red blood cell formation.

Grinch Shake to help my little one beat this cold. Garden goodies!!! #plantbased

I have several of these trees growing on my property. There are tons of uses for moringa: from adding to salads, smoothies, soups, dry and grind into powder, etc. to pack in more nutrition in a small package. In addition to micro greens, moringa packs in such tremendous nutrition in such a small package! In 2008 the National Institute of Health called Moringa   oleifera   the “plant of the year,” acknowledging that “perhaps like no other single species, this plant has the potential to help reverse multiple major environmental problems and provide for many unmet human needs.”

My girl and I sitting on the porch munching on moringa leaves from one of our moringa trees.

[08/04/18]   It’s time to start fall planting!!!

You can still get a crop of tomatoes/tomatillos if you hurry but the majority of fall crops will be planted in October. I compiled a list for the Houston area and similar 8b regions to help with planting dates. All dates listed are for planting seeds. If you transplant, you can plant them about 2 weeks later and still get he same result. See below:

Beans bush (15-31)
Cucumber (1-14)
Garlic chives (15-31)
Onion multiplying (1-31)
Squash summer (1-14)
Tomatillo (1-31)

Carrot (1-14)
Daikon radish (7-14)
Dill (1-30)
Garlic chives (1-30)
Onion multiplying (set 1-30)

Ison muscadine grapes. I have a three-year-old vine that (now that it’s finally in the ground) is starting to produce! These are a dark pigmented fruit with loads of antioxidants in the skin to help us enjoy life and keep us healthy! I have been loving my new fruit garden that has produced figs, pears, kumquats, and now grapes during the first year. I hope to get some feijoa (pineapple guava) next season along with some mandarins, goji berries, and blood oranges. There are so many delicious fruits in the world that are suited for our climate and not available in most stores, why not grow your own?

Here is my 10’ moringa tree (1 of 7) on the property. This is arguably the most nutritious leaf on the planet that is added to my green smoothies. My little girl is sick at the moment and asks every morning for her “Daddo shake” because I’ve taught her that certain food is healthy and makes people feel better. “Food medicine” is what we take around our house most times we don’t feel well. I love that we have the freedom to grow the cleanest, purest, and healthiest foods on the planet. Now to hunt for more land...

[06/25/18]   Microgreens growing is my new venture!!! Had this newly designed corner of our home devoted to my crafts by non other than Anais Cook(master designer extraordinaire). And labor done by yours truly. Microgreens are between 4x and 40x more nutrient dense than the mature plant. Great for sandwiches, soups, smoothies, and whatever you can imagine! We are growing buckwheat, sunflower, and green peas.

Found a tree that had been carved up with initials and other messages (like a pic of a t-Rex) while having a picnic. Kids asked about the drawings and I explained someone carved it with something sharp. They apologized to the tree for being “hurt” By someone else. My little tree huggers. And kissers? #weirdbutsweet

Homemade organic mozzarella cheese!!! I am so proud that my first attempt at cheese was edible. It took a total of ~40 minutes from start to finish. Then we demolished two of these for lunch. They say the taste and flavor improves after 24 hours in the fridge so I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Has anyone else attempted cheesemaking?

The miracle tree!! My Moringa tree is going to flower! This edible leafy green tree is gram for gram more nutritious than kale.

Next batch of kombucha is getting ready!
This is so good for your overal body health, alkalizes your body, regulates your digestion, and above all is so easy to make!!!

Just finished the first set of beds last night. Now I just wish my soil yard wasn’t closed on Sundays. He must realize how sore my back is this morning.

A broccoli 🥦 and engineered probiotics a day can keep cancer doctor away!!??

This is an amazing study in Nature Biochemical Engineering journal showing that engineered E. Coli bacterium can produce a particular enzyme in the intestine that in its turn can break down broccoli component into a molecule that kills colorectal cancer cells!

Everything You Know About Composting is Wrong: Mike McGrath at TEDxPhoenixville

Composting turned on its head.

Bacterial based compost is what most gardeners attempt. Adding food scraps and dried leaves to a bin represents the typical garden compost.

Leaf mold and fungal dominated compost is critical for your soil micro life and disease resistance of your plants.

I add both types to my garden beds in hopes that the variety of microbial activity and nutrients create a well-balanced result. Both are helpful. This talk states only one is necessary, but YMMV.

Mike hosts the nationally syndicated public radio show You Bet Your Garden, which airs every Saturday at 11am on WHYY-FM (90.9) in Philadelphia. "You Bet You...

The Shocking Reason Why Countries Are Now Banning the Use of Microwave Ovens

What are your thoughts? In America, over 90 percent of households have a microwave oven that is used for meal prepping. In the beginning, microwaves were sold as “Radaranges,” that utilized technology that transmits electromagnetic waves through our food, stimulating molecules and heating them up as they react to the radi...

U.S. Air Force Is Spraying 6 Million Acres With Chemicals in Response to Harvey Amid statewide efforts to clean up the aftermath left by the historic flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, the Pentagon announced last week that it had dispatched C-130H Sprayers from the Air Force Reserve's 910th Airlift Wing in order to "assist with recovery efforts in eastern Texas."

Caring for Your Garden after the Flood All gardens need water, but what do you do when we get too much of a good thing? Floods and long-standing water can be devastating to a garden. The damage that is done will depend on the duration of the flood, the types of plants, the type of soil they are growing in and whether …
