Moving on is healthy!
The choice is yours.
Communications, as I define it, is broadening. While I've been focused only on marketing for the past three years, I've discovered that helping people learn to read is one of my passions. Whether you're an elementary student or an adult, how well you read affects how you view yourself, how you interact with others and how you cope with the world. If you or someone you know needs help with their reading, reach out to me. I'd love to help them open a new world.
Networking 101--If you're a small to medium sized business owner, you probably already know what generates the most ROI. Face-to-face networking. And it works best when you go into the networking opportunity willing to give more than you get. If you're only interested in passing out your business cards and talking about what great things you can do for them, your selfish insincerity shines through. It's kind of like being stuck in the corner at an office party with an egomaniac who only wants to talk about himself!
If you're looking for a good networking group, you might want to try a WOAMTEC group. It stands for Women On A Mission to Earn Commission, but men are welcome and you don't have to be on commission to join. There are currently groups in Katy, Tomball, Conroe and The Woodlands. To learn more about this business-building organization see their page WOAMTEC.

If you're a small business, you've probably ordered ad specialty items in the past. There's more to it than pens and pencils. The right giveaway can help customers remember you so they can come back or make you easy to remember so they can recommend you to someone else. When I needed something special on a very tight budget, my friend, Dawn Candy at I Promote You, helped me come up with this lens cleaning cloth. Dawn's at the ASI trade show in Dallas this week finding more specialty items for her customers. When you work with a supplier of giveaways, it's good to make sure that they're part of ASI. That way you know they've got the latest items and the widest array for you to choose from.
Small businesses need networking and marketing
If you're the owner of a small business, there are many demands on your time. Here are 5 quick tips to help you focus on networking and marketing to grow your business.
1. You can't do it all, so look at your customer base to determine how best to reach them.
2. Zone in on two social platforms and publish quality content three times each week. Quality content is information-based, not sales-based.
3. Consider your networking options carefully. Your time is limited so, again, don't try to do it all. Is the Chamber of Commerce a good fit for your business or will you gain more exposure and/or customers through a networking group like Business Networking International?
4. Gather emails selectively and make sure that you always include an unsubscribe or opt-out option with every communication that you send.
5. True networking includes a healthy dose of helping others. It's not all about you and your business. But those who've been referred by you to a good customer with be your strongest cheerleaders.

Happy 25th to my one and only, favorite son Patrick. As a toddler, Patrick sounded as if he'd smoked all of his life. Low and gruff. His favorite thing to play with his friend Nolan was "I be bear. You be man." They'd both run around and crash into each other and then do it all over again! I guess they thought bears just ran over you until you succumbed. LOL! Nolan now has a handsome little boy named Hudson who, once he's walking/running will probably play the same game with his friends! Patrick's favorite food was bacon. There's a "classic" video of us having family breakfast in the New Orleans house. Patrick is taking almost all of the bacon from the plate I've put down and trying to hide it with his little hand! Meredith's yelling because she sees what's going on. I calmly come out of the kitchen and move the plate near Meredith. Patrick says "My bacon" in that gruff voice and eats at least 3 pieces! Yes; Meredith got to eat bacon for breakfast also. I'm unaware of the nuances of this little drama until I watch the tape years later at my in-laws' house. Every time we see it, we laugh until we almost cry. Happy 25th birthday you renowned bacon thief!
There are so many connections with other people in your life that God orchestrates in a million ways! A young boy #tbone and his father contacted my son Patrick during one of Patrick's college breaks. Pat was a bullpen catcher for the University of Texas and wore #42. It so happened that 42 was #tbone's favorite number. They lived close to us so we went to visit #tbone and his family. We had a great time! Last Sunday evening I attended a ladies-night-out event at Champion Forest Baptist. After eating and worshiping, a beautiful petite woman stood and began the presentation. Gina talked about every mom's nightmare--her son became ill; he was diagnosed with a rare disease; after one bone marrow transplant it morphed into leukemia; and then he underwent another bone marrow transplant. Then the story changes. God changed it! Gina is thankful, daring to do things she hasn't done before and giving back by agreeing to volunteer with MD Anderson. Gina is #tbone's mom. He's 17 now, driving, dating and doing all the normal things 17-year-olds do. And how did I find out about this event? Patrick forwarded a link to me and I had an opportunity to celebrate #tbone's recovery with his mom! Oh yes, in the fall of 2017, Gina will be holding horns up and singing "The eyes of Texas are upon you . . . "
