Major update on Laura.

This is going to be a close call because the landfall point is still uncertain. Remember, the cone represents equal chances for the center to track.

I think we'll have a lock by Tuesday morning's 10AM forecast. We cannot rule out a direct hit here in southeast Texas until we see where it emerges into the Gulf past Cuba tonight. PLEASE stay aware in case you have to act quickly and alter plans should it track more this way.

HURRICANE WATCH: From Galveston Bay/Port Bolivar to west of Morgan City, LA
STORM SURGE WATCH: San Luis Pass to Ocean Spring, MS TROPICAL STORM WATCH: Houston, Galveston, and up I-45 to Huntsville then eastward into Louisiana.

More to come this evening, but I have to get ready for TV now.

Yes, 3 disturbances are highlighted in the Gulf and Atlantic. No, I’m not concerned. The first will bring us much needed rain right off the Texas coast, and will not organize. The second, could become a weak Depression and would bring us rain, & the 3rd is still very uncertain, way out in the Atlantic, but is now a moderate chance of development. Let’s stay optimistic and apprised of any changes.
As you know, I’ll always post ASAP when I see something.

ABC13-Travis Herzog

These are the two tropical waves set to bring us soaking showers and thunderstorms this week. The first one is flaring up right as it moves into Texas tonight. The second is nearing the Gulf. That’s the one to watch for its potential to get better organized later this week. For frequent tropical video updates, head here:

While several larger Texas counties have issued mandates on businesses requiring them to require the public to wear a mask. No such order exist in Montgomery County and there are no plans for any such order to be issued. Individuals and businesses alike can and will make the decision for what is best for them with regard to wearing a mask.

Here is a breakdown of the numbers as of 3pm today.

* 23,970 test have been administered to date across the

* 22,515 have come back negative for COVID-19

* 1555 have come back positive for COVID-19

* Of the positives 604 are active cases.

* 15 of which are hospitalized.

* 917 cases have fully recovered and are no longer active.

* 34 cases have tragically died.

* 589 of the active cases are self-isolated at home
requiring no medical services while they recover.

Montgomery County hospitals receive patients from all over our region. Yesterday I spoke with the leadership teams at every hospital within our county and was assured there is ample capacity at this time. While our counties cases of hospitalizations remain relatively low, we can see an increase in patients from surrounding communities. COVID hospitalizations and cases are reported by the health district of the patient’s resident county. As of this morning our ICU utilization by COVID patients was under 14%. General Bed usage by COVID patients was 6.4%. This includes all patients regardless of county of residence.

We are seeing a larger number of younger positive cases. Please help spread the word to all family members and friends that now is not the time to let your guard down. Continue to follow CDC guidelines while in public places and practice social distancing wherever possible.

Today is COLD FRONT Day.
Here’s the schedule:

Tomorrow morning, we will have many spots with wind chills in the upper 20°s. I’m not kidding! One day after we broke a record high and hit 84° on Sunday! Yikes. 🥶 💨

NOTE: our actual air temperatures won't flirt with freezing until early Wednesday morning, and early Thursday morning. But the wind chills will be colder tonight.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Upcoming Weather in Montgomery County

ABC13-Collin Myers

The rumors are true. Not one, but TWO Fronts are coming in next week. The first, on Monday, won’t be a major drop in temperatures but rather humidity levels. However you will FEEL it! Breezier conditions and very low dewpoints will make it quite nice outside.
The latter front, will arrive Friday and be a drop of both temperatures and humidity! Come on, Fall.🍁

Next Saturday’s morning lows could be in the 50°s, with dry air! Afternoons next weekend could land in the comfortable, dry 70°s.

It’s still hurricane season and Tropical Storm Karen has formed in the eastern Caribbean. Some forecasts are already saying Karen might enter the Gulf, but Karen’s not having it. She’s looking for a manager to speak to as soon as she gets a venti latte. We’ll be keeping an eye on her, because—Karen. No one really knows what she’ll do!

Have a great Sunday.

Rayford Road will be closed to through traffic in both directions from Fox Run Boulevard to the Grand Parkway (SH 99) starting at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

Rayford should reopen sometime Saturday morning.
The closure is necessary in order to install drainage pipes across Rayford Road at Fox Ravine Drive.

On Saturday morning, crews will continue to install pipe across Fox Ravine on the south side of Rayford Road.
During the closure:

- Fox Run residents will not be able to access their homes at Fox Ravine off of Rayford Road. They will need to take Fox Run Boulevard to Fox Mountain.

- Fox Run residents will not be able to access their homes at Hidden Spring Falls from Rayford Road. They will need to take Fox Run Boulevard to Buckminster.

- Legends Run residents will not be able to access their homes at Legends Reach Drive off of Rayford Road. Residents will need to enter their community at Legends Run Drive off of Rayford Road or Birnham Woods Drive.

- All eastbound and westbound through traffic on Rayford Road will be diverted to Fox Run Boulevard. Eastbound traffic will need to use the Grand Parkway feeder road and turnaround as necessary. Westbound traffic will need to use the Grand Parkway frontage road to access Fox Run Boulevard west to Rayford Road.

The drainage pipe installation is part of the Rayford Road widening project from Richards Road the Grand Parkway.

For further questions, call the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner’s Office at 281-367-3977.

Canyon Ranch at the entrance to the gated community of Legends Ranch off of Rayford Road will be partially closed throughout the day Friday as crews install drainage pipes across the road.

One side will be closed and then the other as the pipes are installed.

Legends Ranch residents may want to access the neighborhood via the Birnham Woods Drive entrance to avoid the construction area.

11:30PM Update: The UKMET has shifted toward Cameron, Louisiana, putting this outlier closer to the consensus. See my most recent post for more.

8PM Thursday Tropical Update:

Barry is getting a little stronger in the Gulf, and I don't like that I'm seeing an increased spread in the computer model forecasts this evening. We're just 24-48 hours from Barry making landfall, and we still don't have a good lock on when it will turn north.

Let me be clear: Louisiana is going to receive severe impacts from Barry. I would strongly discourage travel through the state this weekend.

But for us in Houston, we still having this lingering uncertainty over our impacts. I don't think they'll be serious like what will happen to our friends in Cajun country, but I won't have complete peace until I see Barry either form a single center of circulation or make the turn north.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, we have a guarded optimism about the impacts here in southeast Texas, but our local National Weather Service office cautioned we must remain vigilant until it makes that turn north or confidence grows in the forecast. Even the National Hurricane Center is still cautioning about the higher than normal level of uncertainty with the track.

We should know when wake up Friday whether the forecast model aimed at Houston is right or wrong. It shows a straight west path while the others make a northwest turn. The reason that particular model, known as the UKMET, is not taken lightly is because it is historically the 2nd best performing model when it comes to hurricane tracks.

You can watch my latest in-depth update here, including different rainfall scenarios based on it if tracks up the middle of the cone, along the left edge of the cone, or along the right edge of the cone:

I'll update you again in the morning.

Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management

Please see the attached press release regarding the potential for a tropical depression to develop in the Gulf. This system has the potential to produce heavy rainfall for our area. This is a good time to GET PREPARED! Ensure you have essentials and emergency supplies on hand.
