If you have not already done so please return your car tags to the office as soon as possible. To be a more efficient and green school we recycle these tags and if we do not receive them back we will have to print thousands more. Please help us to be green :)

NCS families,

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Our music department is in need of a covered truck, preferably with a ramp, to assist with the transport of a piano from a home in Clayton to NCS. Please contact Mr. Honeycutt at [email protected] or Mr. Johnson at [email protected] if you can help us with this need.

IRCMS - Third Grade Reading Passages

NCS families,

Below you will find useful links that you can use to structure your child’s own tutoring via the internet. These links will be beneficial for students needing both remediation and acceleration. For students who need remediation a log should be kept documenting what the student has achieved during the summer. Most of these sites are tailored towards elementary but there are still some useful sites for upper grades.

READING

This is a link to some reading passages:

Thank you all for stepping up to assist us with proctors this week. We appreciate each and every one of you. Tomorrow, May 25th we will be conducting make-up testing and need approximately 10 proctors to help out. If you are available please let me know immediately. We also, would appreciate it if you could please let us know your availability for next week so we can plan for retesting etc. We will have a sign up sheet for everyone tomorrow as well. Thank you again!

05/24/2012

Yearbooks are in and will be distributed tomorrow, Friday, May 25th. We do have a few extras that will be sold on a first come, first served basis for $50. Checks should be made out to NCS. Don't miss this opportunity to have a lasting keepsake for your student.

05/22/2012

NCS families,

First, let me say how impressive it was to look into our media center this morning and see all the parent's, grandparent's, friends and neighbors gazing back at me. We really came together yesterday and pulled together for our students. Thank you so much! We could not have done this without your support and dedication.

Second, in comparison to what our needs were yesterday tomorrow's needs are small but just as urgent. We currently need 6 more proctors for tomorrow. If there is anyway that you can help out or know someone that can, please have them email me and let me know immediately. We can do great things together and I know that we will also rise to this occasion.

Again, thank you for all that you do for our school, students and staff. It is much appreciated, valued and needed!

05/22/2012

NCS families,

The true test of community and family is how everyone pulls together in a time of need. Well, we have certainly passed that test. We have rocked it tonight and have got all but 7 of the needed proctors for tomorrow. Thank you to all the parents that have taken time off work to fill a need so that our students do not have to have their testing schedule readjusted. Please keep up that attitude and effort. We are so close! I know this is a tough and stressful time for everyone, and we truly appreciate all you do and your understanding during the testing madness!! Please let's make this happen for our students, if we each just call one friend or neighbor, we can and will meet our goal!!

Thank you!!

05/21/2012

NCS families,

Due to not having the amount of proctors required by the NC Department of Public Instruction 6th, 7th and 8th grade will not be testing on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. They will resume testing on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012. Please call or email [email protected] immediately if you are available to proctor.

Thank you!

05/21/2012

NCS families,

As you know we have begun our End-of-Grade testing this week. We are in DESPERATE need of your help by serving as a testing proctor. We do not have enough school personnel to meet the number of proctors required by the NC Department of Public Instruction. For this reason, we depend on the volunteer support of our parents. Due to the inadequate number of proctors we are already working on a reduced testing schedule that will extend our retesting. If you are able to volunteer PLEASE come to the school tomorrow at 7:45 a.m. for a brief training session and then you will be set to proctor that day.

Thank you so much for your assistance and willingness to help us fill this URGENT need!

Parents, please don't forget to review our End-of-Grade and End-of-Course testing schedule posted on our website. Tomorrow we will begin testing the 5th and 8th graders in Science.

Please note that during scheduled testing days our campus will be on lock down and ANY campus visitor will be escorted to their destination by a NCS staff member.

All delivered lunchs MUST be taken to the gym lobby for pick-up. Parents, as always, MUST come into the front office. We will NOT be interrupting classes unless there is an extreme emergency.

Below are a few tips for preparing your student for the upcoming testing:

* Reduce stress before the test. Students need to know the importance of these tests. Reassure students. Have a relaxed environment at home the night before the test.

* Rest before the test. Have your child go to bed early enough to get plenty of rest.

* Prepare with care. Set the alarm earlier on the mornings of the test. Students must be on time to school. Tardy students are not admitted late to the classroom during testing and will have to take a make-up test. Don't schedule appointments on test days. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast.

* Dress for success. Students need to dress comfortably in clothing they like but is within dress code.

* Tell them “You will do well I can tell”. Help your child to feel confident about taking the tests. Express your confidence in his/her ability to do well.

* Use the For Students main tab on our school website to access the EOG/EOC Testing tab for useful tools, links and apps for testing preparation.

Good luck to everyone and we appreciate our parents and the support that you give to your children and our staff!
