My 3 biggest hurdles with nutrition are:
(1) Eat more veggies
(2) Moderation - I'm either off the rails or super clean
(3) Planning & Preparing - I've typically got this down but occasionally I miss the boat or come back in from out of town and don't plan at all. Those weeks are tough.
What are your nutritional hurdles?
The next TakeDown Challenge is getting close. Registration opens in 2 weeks. It's 28 days to kick start a healthier, leaner life. Get more info here:
"The difference between knowing and doing in planning and preparing." I'm not sure where I heard that the other day but this is so true! It's true in nutrition. It's true in training. It's true in personal finance. Planning and prepping is typically the first habit we work on in our Nutrition Coaching. If you can get that down, it makes life so much easier and goals so much more attainable!
"Louisiana now has the sixth highest adult obesity rate in the nation, according to The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America. Louisiana's adult obesity rate is 33.1 percent, up from 25.8 percent in 2004 and from 12.3 percent in 1990. Rates increased in six states in the past year — Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, New Jersey, Tennessee and Wyoming."
This is not OK. What can you do about this?

So often people hold off making progress while they look for the secret to success - the magic pill, the perfect workout, the perfect diet...
The secret? Start today, do the little things that you know you should be doing - get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, eat like an adult should and do something active every day. Getting started and being consistent works every time.
Mom's are AWESOME. They are, in general, the most selfless creatures on earth. They put their children, their husbands, their jobs, and just about everything else above their own needs. Everybody appreciates it. Trust me. But you deserve better. Mom's need to take care of themselves so that they can continue to be the strong anchor of their family. I think that this video is wonderful. If you're a mom and you need to take care of you - we can help get your nutrition back on track. https://www.facebook.com/fitmomhappymom.sallyhilldunn/videos/469283346580081/?pnref=story
Another food pic - Italian Pork Roast (dry roasted in the crock pot), roasted sweet potatoes and garlic and some broccoli. We are using the left over pork roast in a recipe tonight.
Traveling is no excuse to eat like crap. I found this at Natures Table Restaurant in the Atlanta airport
A nice 5 unit meal (or 3 unit meal & 2 unit snack)

You CAN do a lot of things on your own. You can lose weight, get in shape, learn to play the piano, start a successful business, learn a new language. But WILL you? Join us for our 28 day nutrition challenge and see more results than you have in months or years!
We start on May 15th. When June 15th rolls around, will you be happy with your results or will you still be telling yourself you'll do better next month?
The 3 main concerns people have with starting a nutrition program (a.k.a. The TakeDown Challenge):
1) It's not the right time. I'm busy - I'll do it later.
This may not be the perfect time. But you know what, there is
NEVER a perfect time. Change is uncomfortable and not often
convenient. But if you really want to lose weight and take
control of your health, NOW is the time. NOW is the best time!
2) Will this work for me?
If you do it, YES! We lay everything out for you but we can
eat the food for you. If you do the work, you will have
3) Can I afford it?
If you have body fat that you want or need to lose, can you
afford not to do it. How long will you keep paying for a gym
membership and still not get the body composition that you
want? How much will you spend on the latest "health" food
without seeing any results?
It's 28 days that will change the way you think about food, change the way you feel and could very well change your life!
We are about 3 weeks out from our TakeDown Challenge! I've had a lot of people ask me if Red River CrossFit TakeDown Challenge would be good for them. Do I think that they need this challenge? I can't answer that question for you, so here are some questions to ask yourself that may help you decide:
1) The first question is always, what are your goals?
2) Do you have a nutrition plan or do you just eat what you want, when you want, in the quantity that you want?
3) Do you have the body composition that you want?
4) Would losing body fat make pullups, pushups, running, muscle-ups, handstand pushups, dips, ect. easier for you? Would it improve your performance?
5) Do you want to be challenged, inspired, motivated, supported, coached and educated?
If you are still unsure, message me or sign-up for more information!
Spring is springin' and summer is getting closer!
We are ramping up our May TakeDown Challenge with folks who are ready to create change in their lives and want to do it within a fun, supportive environment. Getting fitter, leaner and learning along the way makes the whole process that much better.
Some people have asked me if it's easy to "do" the 28 day TakeDown Challenge.
Change is never "easy" but if someone giving you a complete road map with suggestions for how to eat, what to eat, how often to eat, exercise recommendations, and offering several group training opportunities per week to make sure you're active, supportive emails and a nutrition seminar, sounds easy to you,
I'd say yes, it's easy.
Will there be obstacles to over-come? Yep. Will you have a whole crew behind you to help you over-come your obstacles? Yep. Will you make mistakes and learn from them? Yep. Will you grow and change. Yep. Will you meet new like-minded friends? Totally.
What have you got to lose?
Take Down Challenge Hi, This is Trey from Red River CrossFit, and after years of helping clients shed body fat, drop dress sizes, take in the belt a few notches, and improve performance, I know one thing — it can be very hard to eat smart and lose weight. Even for myself, it can be a struggle to eat all the right thing…
Don't leave good food choices up to chance. Be prepared. Food prep is one of the most beneficial nutrition habits!
Your weight or what you eat does not define who you are as a person. You are more than a number on a scale or a size on a tag. You are a person, a mother, a father, a son, a daughter, a husband, a wife, a friend. You are smart, creative, funny, hard-working, successful, honest, loving, caring and adventurous. Those are the characteristics that really define who you are. However, nutrition is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle and being healthy WILL expand your capacity to be the best version of who you are.
What do you value in life? Your health? Your body? Your mind? If so, do you reserve time, money and energy to improve these things? Regardless of what you value, it's important that you align your actions with those values. You will never be fulfilled until you do. If you value your health then it's time to make it a priority!
My focus these days is progress. I've limited myself so much by trying to make everything perfect or waiting for the perfect time. There is no perfect - be better than yesterday.
This is the type of killer recipe that
we get to enjoy during the 28 Day TakeDown Challenge!
