Our 2021-2022 season kicked off last week, and it has been awesome! Our dancers have brought an amazing energy into the studio, and our faculty have loved every minute! So, today we continue our spotlight tour with Ms. Victoria Whaley.

Victoria is no stranger to Shreveport Dance Academy. She grew up dancing in our studio and was also a member of the Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet. While a student at SDA, Victoria studied ballet, tap, and jazz. She also served as a student teacher during her senior year of high school.

Upon graduation, Ms. Victoria made her way to Natchitoches, LA to attend Northwestern State University. In 2019 she returned to Shreveport to conclude her studies at Louisiana State University – Shreveport, where she graduated with a degree in Secondary Education. When she returned to the Shreveport-Bossier community, she rejoined SDA as a faculty member. This will be her fourth year to teach ballet technique at SDA, and her second to serve as an instructor at Caddo Magnet High School.

Victoria says, “I grew up at SDA, and it shaped me into the person that I am today. Being able to influence young dancers the way that my dance teachers influenced me is a dream come true. I cannot thank SDA enough for the impact it has had on my life!”

At Shreveport Dance Academy we are proud to have so many dancers that are willing to return and invest in future dancers. Please join me in celebrating Ms. Victoria, and the positive impact that she is looking to make in each of her young students!

Ms. Elaina Guerrero is the next faculty member on our spotlight tour!!

Like Sofie, Kathryn, and Blair, Elaina is also a Shreveport Dance Academy and Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet alumnus. She began dancing at SDA at the age of 4, and continued until her graduation from high school at the age of 18.

In 2015 she continued her dance education at Northwestern State University where she studied Secondary Education and Dance. Elaina was very active within the dance program at NSU. She danced in multiple NSU Dance Company productions, and was the Captain of Demon Dazzler Dance Line her junior year. As Captain, she was in charge of choreographing/cleaning all field shows and pep rallys and leading rehearsals. Elaina also took her team to competition for the first time in three years and placed 2nd place!

Upon graduating from NSU in 2019, Elaina was hired to work as a parade performer at the Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida. At Disney, she danced the part of Candy Cane Girl in Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, female dancer in The Main Street Trolley Show, and Swan Court female and Highland female in The Festival of Fantasy Parade. Sadly Elaina’s time at Disney was cut short in Mar h of 2019 due to Covid.

Now Elaina is home in Shreveport teaching ELA at Caddo Middle Magnet.

When I asked Elaina to tell me about her love of dance, and what she was looking forward to as a teacher at SDA, she said, “I have two major passions in my life: dance and education.
Dance gives one this incredible physical and mental strength that becomes addicting. It is a beautiful juxtaposition of fluid, yet strong movements. The beauty of dancing is that while there is founding technique, no two dancers are the same. Each dancer has their own quirks and strengths that makes them completely unique.
Growing up, I had wonderful teachers who pushed me to be my very best. The reason I believed in myself is because my teachers believed in me first and communicated that to me. Going forward, my goal is to be that teacher for every student in this studio - someone who believes in them and will push them until they blossom.
Besides my relationship with God, dance has had one of the biggest impacts of my life. Dance brought me the strongest friendships and the taught me the most valuable lessons. Most of my happiest memories include dancing, and I pray I can provide a truly wonderful experience for our dancers this year.”

We are so excited to have passionate teachers that love dancing and children at Shreveport Dance Academy. Come dance with Ms. Elaina, and let her fuel your talent and your love for dance!
