This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week. What better time to make sure your child's car seat is safe and installed properly? Use of car seats and booster seats have been proven to greatly reduce the risk of childhood death and the extent of injuries due to an auto accident so why not join the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force for a free safety seat check event this Saturday.

On Saturday morning, May 2, 2020, Taylor Lesniewski was asleep at home when she was awakened by her mother, Heather Bourgeois, during a medical emergency. Heather, who was 23 weeks pregnant, was experiencing severe pain and asked that Taylor call her step-father, Brian, for help.

However, recalling information learned while attending Sheriff's Safety Town, Taylor dialed 911 and calmly provided critical information to the Shreveport Fire Department which allowed them to quickly dispatch medical assistance to their home. As Heather drifted out of consciousness, she was rushed to a local emergency room where she was diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition and prematurely delivered a baby girl, Hadley Bourgeois.

Taylor remained calm and composed during the emergency which allowed her mother to get the help she needed that ultimately saved her life. In recognition of her extraordinary efforts to render lifesaving aid during a time of need, Taylor Lesniewski was awarded the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Lifesaving Award on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
