The goal of the program is to reduce incidence of power-based violence (e.g., dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking) on- and off-campus. The programming provides individuals with information on identifying forms of power-based violence and responding in situations in which they witness or experience harm. Students, faculty, and staff may seek resources and support services from the SAVE Program in the event they experience any form of power-based violence.
Operating as usual
Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day is a nationally-recognized day that takes place on the second Wednesday of October to raise awareness about the health impact of abuse in the healthcare and advocacy communities.

In support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Barksdale Air Force Base held a proclamation signing in support of sexual assault victims. Dr. Markey Pierre, Vice-Chancellor of External Affairs and Chief of Staff and LSUHS SAVE Officer, Grace Nickels represented LSU Health Shreveport at this empowering community event. The proclamation was signed by community leaders, survivors, and advocates, followed by the SAPR 5K Color Run.

Visit the Victim Connect Resource Center (www.victimconnect.org) for assistance. 4) Connect them with resources. How much do you know about domestic violence?
October – the month we take time highlight the issue of domestic violence. And while Louisiana’s rate of women murdered by men has decreased slightly over the past year, according to a recently released national report, the state still ranks 5th in the nation. The same report also reveals that Louisiana’s rate of women murdered by men remains 77% higher than the national average, at 2.26 homicides per 100,000 females. These numbers are frightening, especially if you are one too many women living in abused households. Couple that with the COVID19 pandemic and families being quarantined in their homes for extended periods of time and you can just imagine the fear that some are living in right now. So be observant – if you see or know of someone struggling and living in fear reach out to them. There are resources available in our community. Help can be reached by contacting the SAVE office, 318-813-7283 or Project Celebration, Inc. (PCI) at 318 226-5015. PCI provides advocacy 24/7 and as well as safe housing.
Project Celebration has some great events lined up for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2020!

In an effort to continue reaching others and bring awareness to the seriousness and prevalence of Domestic Violence, we will be sharing the No More message, activating bystanders, and sharing information that can help those who are experiencing violence during this unprecedented crisis.
